Despite the importance of Sustainable development, the campus waste problem has become serious.
Campaigns and design interventions have been conducted at different levels, but the sustanability of design is questionable. In order to reduce the input of additional resources and increase the sustainability, it is desirable to induce sustainable behavior of members.
Sustainable behaviors of students, major actors in campus waste problems, would help to solve the problems. In addition, given that campus waste problems are characterized as a wicked problem, students and cleaning staff are needed to examine both stakeholders in the problem. Therefore, in this study, we first reviewed the literature on previous intervention cases.
Next, we chose a particular case of S building, A university in Seoul, and conducted interviews and surveys on 6 graduate students, and 6 cleaning staff of the building. As a result, it was discovered that there are significant differences in attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors toward campus waste problems between students and cleaning staff. Accordingly, suggestions for designing interventions to foster sustainable behavior in students are discussed.
