Twitter has recently become a key medium in the political arena, in that it easily connects politicians with the public due to its many technological or functional advances such as speed, brevity, and interactivity. This study focuses on 1) examining the motivations that prompt young voters in South Korea to exchange tweets with politicians, 2) categorizing these motivations into specific types, and 3) presenting perceptive explanations about the characteristics of each type. Using Q-methodology, this study conducted a Q-factor analysis on data obtained from 31 participants and found four distinct types: opinion exchangers, informal information seekers, direct communicators, and celebrity followers. This study discusses the distinctive features of these types and the implications of the results.
