아리스토텔레스 『범주론』에 대한 17세기 중국 서문의 출처 = The Source of 16<SUP>th</SUP> Century Chinese Translation of Aristotle’s Categories : 名理探 and Neoplatonic Exegetic Tradition

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 아리스토텔레스의 『범주론』 주석 전통을 중심으로 17세기 포르투갈 코임브라(Coimbra) 대학의 라틴어 주석서, 전자의 17세기 중국어 번역본인 『명리탐(名理探)』, 그리고 기원후 6세기 전후의 신플라톤 그리스 주석서를 비교 분석하여 동양의 논리학 주석의 역사적, 철학적 그리고 문헌학적 연관성을 밝히고자 한다. 본 연구의 대상이 되는 부분은 『범주론』의 중역본 앞에 위치한 서문이다. 3장 분량의 이 서문은 코임브라 라틴어 서문을 모델로 삼았으며 신플라톤학파에서 고안한 서문 양식, 그리고 중세 스콜라 철학의 논의 전개양식을 그대로 답습하고 있다. 즉 저서의 1) 진위, 2) 제목, 3) 목적, 4) 학습 순서, 5) 유용성, 6) 저서를 나누는 장에 대한 설명이 차례로 전개되는데 이와 같은 서문 양식은 6세기 신플라톤학파의 주석 전통에서 그 기원을 찾을 수 있다. 더욱 주목할 점은 바로 라틴 서문에선 찾을 수 없는 내용들이 중역본 서문에서 발견된다는 것이다. 실로 현존하는 6세기 암모니우스, 그리고 3세기 포르피리우스의『범주론』등의 주석서를 참조해보면 중국 주석서가 전개하고 있는 해설의 기원이 신플라톤 철학 주석서에 있다는 것을 증명할 수 있다. 따라서 6세기 알렉산드리아에서 그리스어로 작성된『범주론』에 대한 주석서와 17세기 중국에서 작성된 『십륜』의 서문에서 공통적으로 발견되는 논증의 유사성은 코임브라 라틴본이 아닌 다른 2차 문헌에서 파생되었을 가능성을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Examining the Aristotle’s Categories in the Greek, Latin Medieval and Chinese exegetical tradition, this article aims to compare three different texts, which show some historical and philological relations, i. e. Commentarii Collegii Conimbricensis e Societate Iesu In Vniversam Dialecticam Aristotelis Stagiritae, 1611), the translation of the latter by Li Zhizao and Francois Furtado/Fu Fanji (『名理探』, 1631) and some Neoplatonic commentaries, especially those of Porphyry (III cent.) and Ammonius Hermiae (VI cent.), leader of the Neoplatonic school at Alexandria. Indeed, the Latin and Chinese commentaries are preceded by a general introduction to Categories which comprises 6 or 7 points: 1) the authenticity of the book, 2) the reason of its title, 3) its aim, 4) to which part of philosophy it belongs, 5) its order in the list of readings, 6) its utility, 7) division into chapters or parts. As it is well known, this kind of introductory has been established for the first time by Neoplatonic School in III-IV century. For the more, although Chinese version is mainly a translation, a comparative analysis revels that it contains some obscure explanations absents from the Conimbricens Latin version. Unexpectedly these explanations find a match in Ammonius’s commentary on Aristotle’s Categories and on Porphyry’s Isagoge. That means that the authors of this Chinese version had probably another secondary sources, maybe a Medieval Latin commentary, closely linked to Neoplatonic exegetical tradition. This article includes a Korean translation of Conimbrens Latin introduction and Chinese introduction.
