Ties between China and Korea is long-standing and countless from cultural background to social lives. The capitals, Beijing and Seoul are two shining stars, representing the essence of the two countries respectively. They are qualified to seize the historic wealth and grasp the opportunity to take a big share in the international heritage tourism market. Both of them are facing a same task: how to utilize tourism resources and realize a sustainable development.
The research object of this thesis is tourism impacts of historic conservation in Beijing and Seoul. These two cities have different political form and economic pattern which make the historic conservation policy different. However, referring to tourism impacts, they are more or less the same. The main research methods used are comparative analysis, quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. The findings of this thesis contain two parts. One is similarities and differences on historic policies in Beijing and Seoul, from legal system, administrative organization and conservation mechanism. The other is negative tourism impacts of historic conservation in two case study areas of both cities, and government’s response in Beijing. The writing purpose is to set a target for further discussion and provide a way of thinking to the urban planners to reduce negative tourism impacts, enhance historic conservation work and maintain urban characteristics.
