왁킹 댄스 역사에 대한 유튜브 기록 실태

본 논문은 최근 대중에게서 큰 관심을 받고 있는 왁킹댄스(Waacking Dance)의 역사에 대한 유튜브(Youtube) 기록 실태를 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구 목적을 실현하기 위하여 전 세계적으로 다양하게 사용되어지고 있는 유튜브를 통해 기록된 역사의 실태를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구는 빅터 마누엘(Victor Manoel), 샤바두(Shabba-doo), 타이런 프락터(Tyrone Proctor), 안나 롤리팝 산체스(Anna ‘Lollipop’ Sanchez), 달라스 제이거(Dallace Zeiger)를 대상으로 진행하였으며, 온전하게 증거하기 위해 연구대상자가 직접 인터뷰에 참여한 동영상 자료만 취급하였다. 또한 분석과정에서 역사적 내용이 있는 자료를 중심으로 적합하지 않은 자료는 제한하여 결과를 분석하였다. 구체적인 연구 결과를 종합하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 왁킹 댄스의 탄생배경에는 게이문화와 디스코음악이 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 인터뷰 내용을 분석한 결과로 공통적으로 언급된 왁킹의 대표적인 댄서는 엔드류, 아서, 팅커, 마이클 엔젤로 이다.
셋째, 왁킹의 용어의 초기 도입과 전개과정은 크게 3가지로 나타났다. 먼저 펑킹(punking)이라는 단어 안에는 부정적인 의미들이 내포되어있다. 그럼에도, 사람들이 이 움직임을 펑킹이라 부른 이유는 이 춤을 추는 사람들은 모두 게이였기 때문이다. 다음으로 포징(posing)은 펑킹이라는 움직임을 하던 도중 잠시 멈춰야하는 상황이 발생하며 생겨났다. 마지막으로 ‘a’가 두 개인 왁킹(whacking, waacking)이 생겨난 이유는 부정적인 의미가 있는 단어와의 차이점을 만들기 위함이었다.
넷째, 왁킹댄스의 근원 및 특징을 외형적 측면에서 펑킹과 포징, 왁킹으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 먼저, 펑킹은 20년대 또는 40년대의 영화배우와 옛날무성 영화배우, 영화, 뮤지컬, 만화, 책, 애니메이션, 예술작품 등에서 영감을 받으며 생겨나게 되었다. 다음으로, 포징은 펑킹에서 생겨났으며 마지막으로 왁킹은 펑킹과 같은 형태의 춤으로, 게이댄스와 락킹댄스, 모든 춤들에서 영향을 받은 것으로 나타났다.
다섯째, 왁킹댄스의 근원 및 특징을 내형적 측면으로 보았을 때, 왁킹은 춤의 한 스타일이라고 하기 보다는 그들의 삶의 스타일과 비슷하다고 볼 수 있다. 이는 삶의 역경을 극복하기 위함이었으며 자신의 내면의 감정을 표현하는 방식이었다고 나타났다.
이러한 연구 결과를 통하여 유튜브에 기록된 왁킹역사에 대해 탄생배경과, 형성과정, 왁킹댄스의 근원 및 특징을 확인할 수 있었다. 더불어 그동안 많은 스트릿 댄스에 대한 이론적 연구가 이루어져옴에도 불구하고, 그 중 종류정도로만 다루어졌던 왁킹의 기초자료와 그에 대한 근거들을 제시할 수 있다. 이상의 결론을 바탕이로 스트릿 댄스 발전에 긍정적인 효과를 기대할 수 있고, 왁킹댄스에 대한 다각도의 후속 연구의 기반이 되기를 기대해본다.

Youtube Record Status of Waacking Dance History

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Youtube record status of waacking dance, which has recently been very popular. To this end, the paper aims to investigate the recorded history through Youtube that is used in various ways worldwide. The study was conducted on Victor Manoel, Shabba-doo, Tyrone Proctor, Anna ‘Lollipop’ Sanchez, and Dallace Zeiger, and only the videos where the research subjects participated in the interview were used to thoroughly prove. Also, the results were analyzed by excluding inappropriate data from the data of history. The summary of specific study results are as follows:
First, waacking dance's creation background is closely connected with gay culture and disco music.
Second. as the results of interview analysis, the representative dancers who were commonly mentioned were Andrew,  Arthur, Tinker, and Michael Angelo.
Third, introduction and definition of the term waacking was mainly divided into three. First the word "punking" had a negative connotation.그Nevertheless, people called this dance punking because the dancers were all gay. Next, posing was created as the dancers had to stop the moving for a moment during the dance. Lastly, the reason "waacking," the word with double a, was generated to differentiate from "whacking" a negative word.
Fourth, the origin and features of waacking dance were analyzed by dividing the dance into punking, posing and waacking in terms of external characteristics. First, punking emerged by the inspiration from actors in 1920's or 1940's, silent movie actors in older times, film, musical, cartoon, books, animation, and works of art. Next, posing emerged from punking. Lastly, as a dance that had the same form as punking, waacking was found to have been influenced by gay dance, rocking dance, and all other dances.
Fifth, when the origin and features of waacking dance were analyzed in terms of internal characteristics, it can be said that waacking is similar to the life style of dancers, rather than being called a style of dance. The dance was a kind of means to overcome the life struggle and a way to express dancers' emotion.
Through the above study research, the creation background, creation process, origin and features of waacking dance history recorded in Youtube were identified. Also, the basic data of waacking, which has been handled as just a type of dance despite a lot of theoretical researches on street dance, and evidence for them could be provided. Based on above conclusion, positive effect for the development of street dance is expected and also follow-up studies for waacking dance are expected to be conducted at various angles.
