After late 1980s many professors and researchers in social and humanistic sciences endeavored to enhance their interests and knowledge about the regions which they live in. The Institute of seoul Studies which was held in Seoul Municipal University in 1993 was one of the turning point to make area or regional studies as an important field in social and humanistic sciences.
In Pusan many professors and researchers gathered in 'Association of Regional Studies'(1998) devoted to make the bases for Pusan Studies. Even though 'Association of Regional Studies' did not succeed in establishing the methods and contents of Pusan Studies, the trial and errors of 'Association of Regional Studies' had important influences in Pusan Studies as a field of regional studies.
Recently 'Center for Korean Studies' in Pusan national University made a 'Pusan Studies Bibliography' which contained 7,116 books and articles. This bibliography was expected to overcome the shortcomings of the existing bibliographies and data bases concerning Pusan Studies.
In the memory of the publishment of this bibliography, this paper investigates the outcomes and limitations of Pusan Studies in 1980s and 1990s, and propose the necessity of 'Center for Pusan Studies' in order to develop Pusan Studies into Pusanolgy which means a new interdisciplinary studies about Pusan.
