This paper is a approach to the literature of Wi, Baek-kyu(魏伯掛) by way of literary biography. The characteristic of country gentleman's literature(鄕村士族層 文學) is generally reflective to their real life. Therefore the biographical approach is essential for the thorough understanding of their literature. Wi, Baek-kyu(魏伯掛) is the representative model of 18th century's country gentleman(苑時中上族). His literature is also reflective to his real life. The spectrum of his literature is the close reflection of his life cycle. To promote the thorough understanding of his literature, the literary biography of Wi, Baek-kyu(魏伯掛) is required now. This paper is the first attempt to construct the literary biography of Jonjae(存齋) Wi, Baek-kyu(魏伯掛).
