The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude toward clothing management and the care of clothing. A questionnaire was utilized in this study to 368 housewives in Chongju to secure measures of demographic information, clothing care practice, and attitude toward clothing management. The questionnaire measuring the attitude toward clothing management consists of items designed to assess the interests in purchase plan, label, laundering, detergents, storage and treatment. Frequencies and analysis of variance were used as statistical analysis.
The results were:
1. Attitude toward clothing management was partially related to age, educational level, and monthly income of housewives.
2. Housewives were more concerned in label, laundering and storage than those in purchase plan, detergents and treatment.
3. Almost all the families had an electric washing machine, and they used synthetic detergent more than soap.
4. Most families used fabric softener and bleaching agent.
5. The main reason why housewives did not wear clothing which they used to wear was due to the clothing worn-out and the change of body type, and in most cases it was confirmed that the clothing which could be used were given to other person.
