7th Education, the government has been carrying out talent·aptitude education as a part of educational activities of respecting learnere's character and devloping and promoting their potential abilities. The talent·aptitude education provides various after-school education programs for students who are willing to participate in, and developing students' talents.
Talent·aptitude education of Korean traditional music was strengthened in the 7th Education Program as a part of the inheritance of national traditional culture, and to propose a plan to enhance the efficiency of education.
For this purpose, qustionaires were distibuted to 28 elemntary schools in Yong-In. Problems and current conditions of talent·aptitude education in elementary schools are summarized as follows.
First, in terms of educational environment, most schools do not have rooms exclusive for Korean traditional music.
In many cases, teachers do not use the classes given in the fields without their interest in and knowledge of them despite good facilities of the schools. If they were not specially interested in Korean classical music, most of teachers would have neither a chance of meeting the music nor the knowledge of Korean classical music education. Thus, they feel the necessity for being trained for their defects in the subject of the music. There are several problems to be solved to settle the talent·aptitude education of Korea traditional music and satisfy all of teachers, students and parents, but the most urgent task is to make a plan for preparing environment and providing program for Korea traditional music and change negative recognition in Korea traditional music.
