      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

My thesis is that a textlinguistic approach offers another reading of Zechariah 3 and 4 within the series of visions text, and the role of Zechariah 3 and 4 in particular. Based on the idea of “turbulence zone,” which is suggested by Robert E. Longacre, this study pays attention to the formal linguistic features in Zechariah 3 and 4, and thereby makes some suggestions about the role of the formal linguistic features in Zechariah 3 and 4 within the series of visions text. With the observation of the role of formal features in terms of uniqueness of Zechariah 3 and 4, this study analyzes the text of Zechariah 3 and 4 based on textlinguistic approach. Before getting at the text of Zechariah 3 and 4, this study outlines the relationship between Zechariah 1:1-6 as a prologue to the book of Zechariah and visions text (Zech 1:7-6:8). Also, in order to investigate the role of Zechariah 3 and 4 within the visions text, this study pays attention to thematic flow or development in visions text. As a result, it is suggested that Zechariah 3 and 4 focus on the historical figures, Joshua and Zerubbabel, and that the theme of Israel`s restoration of Yahweh (“I will return to you,” ~k,ylea] bWva`w> [Zech 1:3]), and the theme of Israel`s return (repentance) to Yahweh (“return to me,” yl;ae WbWv [Zech 1:3]) exist together in Zechariah 3 and 4. These themes of restoration and return (repentance) play the role of peak (as turbulence zone) within the thematic flow of the series of visions text. The theme of restoration such as choice of Jerusalem dominates the text before the Zechariah 3 and 4, while the theme of return (repentance) dominates the rest of visions text after Zechariah 3 and 4.
