The aim of this study was to use scientific analysis methods to present the direction of defense policy develop- ment and enhance research efficiency through trend analysis of defense policy research. By analyzing policy changes over the past 10 years (2013-2022) based on actual cases of defense policy research and comparing them with defense budgets, the study presented a realistic direction for defense policy research, incorporating scientific techniques such as Topic modeling and Factor analysis.
The significance of the study lies in its difference from previous studies, as it combines scientific methods to provide a practical direction for defense policy research. When analyzing the direction of existing defense policy research over time, it was found that from 2015 to 2018, there was an increasing trend in defense policy research focusing on Integrated Active Defense(Mental Combat Power, Maintenance Costs, Air force/Space operations), while from 2020 to 2022, there was an increase in research on Innovation and Self-reinforcement (Army/Training, Strategy/Maneuver/Vessels, Training sites/Safety, Clothing/Supply/Soldiers, Testing and Evaluation, Reserve component, Data/Automation/Smart). This study quantified and visualized these changes in defense policy research, and by analyzing them alongside the defense budget, it can provide implications for setting the direction of future defense policy research.
