Reduction reactivity of oxygen carrier for chemical looping combustor has been measured using simulated coal syngas in a fluidized bed reactor. Two kinds of syngas (with and without H₂S) were used to investigate the effect of H₂S and N70A particles were used as an oxygen carrier. Very high fuel conversion and CO₂ selectivity were obtained not only for syngas without H₂S but also syngas containing H₂S during reduction. During oxidation, at initial stage, oxygen in the air was consumed by oxidation of oxygen carrier. After that, SO₂ was released by oxidation of sulfur in the oxygen carrier. To check durability of oxygen carrier under H₂S containing condition, cyclic reduction-oxidation tests were conducted. Fuel conversion and CO₂ selectivity were maintained at 100% up to 10th cycle. However, only small portion of sulfur can be removed during oxidation.
