      In this study, a process variation by carbon formation in the reactor during the production of syngas by steam reforming of toluene were suggested. The carbon formation in the steam reforming reaction of aromatic compounds such as toluene is more occurred than the reforming of aliphatic hydrocarbons, depending on the catalyst condition and operating conditions. As a method to diagnose the deposition of carbon during the reaction, the differential pressure between the inlet and the outlet of the reactor, the hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio, and dry gas flow rate and the amount of condensate in the outlet of the reactor should be considered. Carbon deposition during the operation of the reforming process can be caused by the oxidation of nickel, which is the main active material of the reforming catalyst, and the steam/carbon ratio change by unstable supply of steam and fuel, and conversion to carbon and hydrogen for pyrolysis of fuel material at high temperature.
