We introduce here the newly designed technology for fabricating Al/Cu hybrid sheet-type composite by means of simultaneous processes such as melting of Al and deformation of Al/Cu laminate during ‘hybrid’ sheet casting, enabling continuous fabrication through a controlled asymmetrical twin roll casting under the various atmospheric control followed by cooling. However, process window has to be carefully controlled since melting-based joint between Al and Cu causes different interface microstructure compared with solid-state joint. In this regard, the effect of microstructural evolution on the local mechanical properties of Al/Cu 2-ply laminates fabricated by different processes such as diffusion bonding accompanied with local melting, roll bonding and ‘hybrid’ casting.
