MBC <PD수첩> 시청자 게시판 이용자의 영향력에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2005년 ‘황우석 사태’는 한국 사회와 국민들에게는 큰 충격과 반향을 일으킨 사건이었다. MBC <PD수첩>의 문제제기와 의제설정으로 시작된 ‘황우석 사태’와 함께 온라인 공간에서 나타난 인터넷 이용자들의 반응은 아주 뜨거웠다. 이처럼 온라인 공간 속에서 각 주체 간의 커뮤니케이션은 단순히 기술의 발달로만 형성되지는 않았다. 최근 뉴미디어 기술의 발달에 따른 자유롭고 재생산이 가능한 쌍방향 커뮤니케이션 공간의 제공은 그 동안 일방적인 메시지를 전달받으면서 소외받아 왔던 수용자들의 담론적 지위를 높일 수 있는 기회를 만들어주었다.
본 논문은 이러한 변화 속에서 기존의 일방적으로 메시지를 전달받는 존재였던 수용자가 <PD수첩> 시청자 게시판과 같은 온라인 공간 속에서 어떻게 영향력을 행사했는지에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 그 동안 온라인 공간을 중심으로 수용자의 의견이 어느 정도 반영되고 있는지에 대한 연구는 제한적이었다. 또한, 의제와 관련된 연구는 미디어의 의제설정에 초점을 맞춰 이루어졌지만 수용자의 미디어에 끼친 영향력과 능동적인 의제수립에 관한 연구는 많이 부족했다. 이와 함께 본 논문은 선행 연구들의 한계와 문제점을 극복하기 위해 수용자 중심의 논의에 기반한 미디어에 끼친 영향력과 의제수립 현상 및 미디어와 수용자 간의 상호작용성을 파악하였다.
본 논문은 ‘황우석 사태’와 관련해 인터넷 이용자의 미디어에 끼친 영향력과 미디어와의 상호작용을 파악하고자 MBC <PD수첩> 시청자 게시판에서 나타나는 사례들과 주요 제작진의 심층 면접을 통했다. 이는 수용자의 의제에 대해 선행된 연구들이 가지는 한계들을 지적함과 함께 이를 극복할 수 있는 제언을 했다는 점에서 그 의의를 가진다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The 2005 ''Hwang Woo-Suk scandal'' was a big incident that caused a big shock and sensation in the Korean society. With ''Hwang Woo Suk scandal'', which started from the raising of questions and the agenda-setting by MBC''s program, "PD Notebook", Internet users showed a great deal of reaction online. This exchange of views on the scandal online wasn''t made only by advances in technology that made new forms of broadcasting possible. Two-way communication provided by the recent development of new media technology was a change that endowed the audience, which had previously only been able to receive messages, with an opportunity to gain a higher status in social debate.
This paper examines how the audience, who had only been able to receive messages in the past, wielded influence with media by using internet features such as the online bulletin board for the audience of "PD Notebook". There is a shortage of studies that discuss whether internet users'' opinions are reflected on the internet.
This paper reached understanding of the nature of this interactivity in the case of ''Hwang Woo-Suk scandal'' by studying examples that were posted on the online bulletin board for the audience of "PD Notebook", and through in-depth interviews with main producers of the program. The significance of this paper lies in the fact that it points out the limitations of previous studies and suggests how to overcome those limitations.
