장애와 젠더 : 여성장애인의 자녀양육 경험과 적응방식 = Gender and Disability : The Experiences of Childraising of Disabled Women

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 여성장애인들이 자녀를 양육하는 과정에서 현실적으로 경험하고 있는 어려움들은 어떤 문제들이며, 어떤 적응방식을 가지고 자녀를 양육하고 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 영아기~아동기 자녀를 키우고 있는 14명의 장애여성을 대상으로 한 심층면접과 11명의 초점집단면접을 통하여 이들의 자녀양육 경험을 파악하였다. 여성장애인들은 장애를 가지고 양육을 해야 하는 물리적, 신체적 제약과 자녀양육 비용을 충분히 마련하지 못하는 경제적 빈곤의 문제, 사회적 편견과 차별 속에서 힘들게 자녀양육을 수행하고 있었다. 이들은 양육노동을 직접 수행하고 있었으며, 제한적인 현실 속에서도 나름대로의 적응방식을 가지고 자녀를 양육하고 있었다. 여성장애인 자녀양육에 가장 큰 지원이 되고 있는 것은 남편의 지원과 도우미지원서비스였다. 여성장애인들은 가사도우미, 학습도우미제도를 적절히 이용한 경우 실제적으로 큰 도움을 받았다고 평가하고 있었다. 이들은 어려운 양육의 현실에서도 자녀양육을 적극적으로 수행하고 있었고, 부모역할은 자기정체성에 긍정적인 강화를 제공하고 부모로서의 보람과 긍지를 느끼게 되는 매우 긍정적인 경험이 되고 있었다. 이상과 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 여성장애인의 양육을 지원해 줄 수 있는 정책적 방안과 실천적 함의를 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Childcaring has considered as a significant part of women’s lives. Due to aggravated challenges stemming from their disability, childcaring of disabled women should be more emphasised. In this stance, this study focuses on the experiences of disabled women who are taking care of their children. The main research questions of this study are: 1) What is the considerable difficulties of disabled women to take care of their children?, 2) How do they handle their difficulties due to disabilities when they look after their children? and 3) What is the meaning and value of childcare to them? To accommodate this study, the researchers conducted a qualitative research based on 14 in-depth interviews and focus group interviews consisted of 11 disabled women with children. The women we met were making every effort to care their children with various practical ways to overcome their limits due to their disabilities. Based on the interviews, this study has found the main difficulties such as physical difficulties, financial problems, mobility constraints, etc. Nevertheless, they were taking care of their children independently with their own endeavour to overcome their limits rather than requiring their original families’ help. In particular, their husbands’ support and the "help services for disabled women" are vital solutions to bring their challenges to a settlement. In addition, the interviewees stated that their experiences of childraising allow them having positive self-identity, fruitful life and motherhood. In conclusion, this study recommends enhancing social support system to help disabled women’s childrearing and parenting on the basis of results from the qualitative research. The social support system to support their childrearing might include: the expansion of the help service system for disabled women and car services for improving disabled parents' mobility and the implementation of services to help children’s outdoor activities or visit to hospitals, peer grouping for disabled parents and economic supports for their childraising.
