This study was conducted to investigate job satisfaction, job stress and level of stress symptom among 132 nurses working at general hospitals from Jan. 15th, 1996 to Feb. 10th, 1996.
The results of this study were as follows
1. Scores of job stress were 3.21 in the married ; 3.27 in the emergency room & ICU 3.18 in the chronic unit nurses(P<0.05). The main causes were work to overload, death & dying and inadequate preparation.
2. Score of stress symptom was 2.84 in the respondents to "guarantee of employment after graduate" in questionnaire as to "reason for selecting nurse as profession" (P < 0.05). The main stress symptoms were physiological and psychological symptoms.
3. Scores of job satisfaction were 2.65 in the married ; 2.71 in the respondents to "for a long time" in questionnaire as to "expected working period as a nurse" ; 2.80 in "help to other people" in questionnaire of "reason for selecting nurse as profession" (P <0.05). The main causes were a sense of belonging, personal relations and autonomy.
4. Lack of staff support(r=-0.2017), inadequate preparation(r=-0.1936) of job stress and physiological(r=-0.2032), psychological(r=-0.1969) of stress symptoms were negatively correlated with job satisfaction(P<0.05).
5. The preestimate factors affecting on job satisfaction had been significant in the range of 30.2 %.
Positive factors were in case of respondents to "Help to other people" in questionnaire as to "reason for selecting nurse as profession", respondents to "for a long time" in questionnaire as to "expected working period as a nurse" and the married.
Negative factors were in case of physiological, psychological symptom, lack of staff support and inadequate preparation.
