HALLOWEEN, which of course was Monday, October 31st, saw the last of an autumn which will long be memorable for its extreme heat, and in tho south of England, no doubt, for the exceptional period of drought. In the north we have been having plenty of rain of late, the rivers for some time past having been raging in flood. The hunting season has opened with the country in fairly good rideable condition, but the hedgerows are still very "blind" in many places, and are likely to be so till we have a night or two's cutting frost, the tangle and undergrowth this year, owing to the warm September weather, being exceedingly thick.
