In order to study the influence of pentazocine on the effects of morphine, analgesic effects were investigated utilizing the hot plate reaction time test in mice and metabolic effects were investigated measuring the changes of blood sugar content, serum transaminase (S-GOT, S-GPT) activities and alkaline phosphatase activities in rabbits.
The animals were treated with pentazocine at 10 minutes after morphine injection.
The results were obtained as follows;
1. Analgesic effect of morphine was antagonized by pentazocine.
2. Pentazocine significantly increased the blood sugar content, serum transaminase activities and alkaline phosphatase activity as well as morphine.
3. The increased blood sugar content, serum transaminase activity and alkaline phosphatase activity of rabbits induced by morphine tended to be potentiated by pentazocine.
