In order to observe the growth pattern of uterine cervical epithelial tissue in vitro, the authors performed tissue culture in the 5% CO_2 water jacket incubator with 36 samples of cervical tissue fragments obtained from 6 women with normal cervical epithelium, 3 patients with carcinoma in situ she 6 patients with invasive cervical carcinoma.
The floolwing results were obtained from the observation of the growth pattern of normal and abnormal uterine cervical tissues.
1. In the normal cervical tissue group, the regular growth pattern of epithelial cells and prominent contact inhibition were exhibited, but jumping pheonmenon was not found. In the abnormal cervical tissue group, the irregular growth pattern and prominent jumping phenomenon were found, and contact inhitition was not observed.
2. In the normal and abnormal uterine cervical tissue group, the growth patterns were same until 2nd week from the beginning of the culture. But from the 3rd week, the rapid growth pattern revealed in the abnormal uterine cervical tissue group.
3. Tissue culture was easier and more successful in the abnormal cevical tissue group than in the normal group.
