As society is developing and changing rapidly at the same time, members of society are increasingly calling for better quality of working life and better quality of life. Under such circumstance, flexible working hour can be an alternative plan to seek flexibility in workplace so that employees can satisfy their needs. For this reason, many businesses are already implementing flexible working hour and others are reviewing the possibility of introducing the system.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of flexible working hour on job satisfaction among employees and their satisfaction depending on the type of the organization. The flexible working hour, the independent variable and job satisfaction, dependent variable were used for an empirical analysis for this study. The data were collected through questionnaires distributed to businesses that implement and do not implement flexible working hour for statistics.
The results can be summarized as following:
First, flexible working hour had a positive influence on job satisfaction of employees.
Second, the recognition of flexible working hour by employees of businesses that administered the system helped to have a positive influence on their job satisfaction.
Third, flexible working hour had a positive influence on job satisfaction in all types of organizational cultures such as maintenance, affiliation, progressive, and rationality cultures.
To recapitulate the findings in this study, flexible working hour exerted a positive influence on job satisfaction among employees. It can be concluded that the job satisfaction is achieved in this system since it fulfills diversified desires of individuals through flexible and creative atmosphere in workplace.
Along with flexible working hour, it was shown that the higher the recognition of the system by employees, in other words the more understanding and positive perception of the system, the more the job satisfaction. This result indicates that businesses should seek agreement on this system with their employees and make them aware about this system before introducing flexible working hour.
In terms of the type of organizational culture, it was revealed that flexible working hour had a positive influence on job satisfaction in all types of organizational cultures.
Although flexible working hour had a positive influence on job satisfaction in all types of organizational culture, the average value of job satisfaction in maintenance culture was relatively low. Therefore, businesses with maintenance culture need due consideration to introduce flexible working hour to their employees.
