The purpose of this study is to review various theoretical frameworks on language learning and home environment and to suggest major elements in providing children of multicultural families with an effective home environment for Korean language acquisition.
This study focuses on three major topics: 1) survey of general studies concerning children of multicultural families in Korea; 2) review of theoretical discussions on language learning and home environment; and 3) suggestions for children's Korean language acquisition in a multicultural home environment.
Three elements of the home environment for acquiring and improving the Korean language in multicultural families are suggested: 1) Korean language guidance, support and parental interaction patterns; 2) Koreanspeaking media use; and 3) practice in the Christian community.
