국문 초록 (Abstract)

月皐 趙性家는 19세기에 굴기한 慶尙右道의 대표적인 학자로서, 경사우도의 蘆沙學派의 首長 역할을 하였다. 어릴 때부터 月村의 문하에서 학문에 전념하였고, 장성한 이후로 蘆沙 문하에 30년을 출입하였고, 蘆沙 만년에 「猥筆」을 전수받을 정도의 대표적인 학자로 인정을 받았다. 또 노사 사후 노사를 모신 高山書院에 首位로 從享되어 노사의 首弟子로 인정되고 있다. 그러나 月皐는 스승의 주된 학문 분야인 性理學에 관한 著述은 하지 않았다. 朱子 등 先賢들이 이미 다 해 놓았기 때문에 실천하는 것이 중요하다고 보았던 것이다. 이는 南冥이 `程子, 朱子 이후로는 꼭 저술을 할 필요가 없다`는 말과 상통한다. 朝鮮後期 학자들은 대부분 性理學을 위주로 공부하였는데, 사실 독창적인 새로운 학설은 별로 없고, 늘 비슷한 주장이 많았다. 그리고 性理學에는 논란이 많다. 學派와 학파간은 물론이고 심지어 스승과 제자 사이에도 學說이 달라 사이가 나빠진 경우도 많았다. 月皐의 내면을 살펴보면 실제로 그는 性理學에 그렇게 큰 관심이 없었다. 복잡한 禮學 논의에도 관심이 없었다. 여타의 蘆沙 제자들과도 크게 다르다. 그가 늘 읽기를 권유한 책은 經晝와 朱子의 저서였지만, 그 자신은 성리학에 관한 저술은 물론이고 언급도 거의 하지 않았다. 月皐의 長處는 詩에 있었다. 그는 타고난 특출한 시인이다. 感覺이나 表現伎倆이 다른 사람보다 월등하게 뛰어났다. 그리고 그는 천부적으로 시 짓기를 무척 좋아하였고, 長篇鉅製도 물 흐르듯 지어내었다. 특출한 詩的인 才能을 가진 사람이 아니면 도저히 지어내기 힘든 능력이다. 월고의 시의 경지는 平淡하면서도 淸雅하다. 특히 詩語가 세련되고 표현기법이 精巧한데, 山水自然이나, 人情世態의 묘사에 뛰어났다. 그러나 정치의 모순, 위정자의 비리, 농민들의 고통상, 당시의 내외정세 등 현실문제를 다룬 시는 거의 보기 어렵다. 그의 관심이 天人合一的인 觀念世界나 修己에 치중해 있음을 알 수 있다. 그가 평생 性理學을 공부한 큰 학자지만, 성리학적인 저술을 남기지 않은 대신, 수준 높은 시 작품을 많이 남겼다. 시 속에 그의 개성이나 사상, 학문, 취향 등이 나타나 있다. 그의 시의 분위기는 宋元의 性理學者들의 분위기가 농후하다고 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Cho Sungga, his pseudonym was Weolgo, was the scholar of Gyeongsang wu province. He was educated under Ha Dalhong, his pseudonym was Weolchon, after growing to 27th-years, he had received instruct of the great scholar Gi Jungjin, his pseudonym was Nosa. From that time he had kept on receiving during 30 years. At the last part of Nosa`s life, Weolgo solely received Oypil, Nosa`s representative thesis of philosophy of human and nature, and after the death of Weolgo, he have enshrined as the attached status at the sacrificial ceremony in Gosan classical academy which have offered sacrifices to Nosa, because he was recognized as representative disciple of Nosa. He did not willing to write essays of philosophy of human and nature. He also did not willing to write essays about rules of manners and custom. He have had his cherished opinion that it was need not to write essays of philosophy of human and nature, as Zhuxi had already written, the scholars after Zhuxi needed to practice what they had known. For after of Tuixi, there were many scholars researching philosophy of human and nature in Chosun dynasty, but their conclusions were substantially alike. In addition to that, there were many argument and party abuses between them. If we confront facts boldly, Weolgo looked upon as endowed poet. At this point he was different from his teacher Nosa and alumnae. His poetical imaginations and craftsmanships of expression were prominent above others. He could write long and great poetry with difficulty effort. The Atmosphere of his poetry was prosaic and elegant. His poetic words were polished and elaborate. The distinguishing characteristics as poetry were to depict the ways of world and landscape. But he was not concerned about the realistic problem. His thoughts of philosophy of human and nature have be implied in his poetry. Therefore the atmosphere of his poetry took after Neoconcian scholars` works. If we will research his poetry very exquisitely, we can define his true characters as scholar.
