Purpose: This study aims to provide practical implications and research data to enhance the economic impact of hosting marine leisure events by local governments.
Method: It does so by comparing and analyzing the economic ripple effects of recently held marine leisure events and competitions. Based on this analysis, the following conclusions were drawn.
Results: Firstly, the 2023 ASAF Keelboat Cup & Boryeong International Sailing Championship recorded the highest personal consumption expenditure. This can be attributed to the direct and indirect influence of the region’s representative festival, the “2023 Boryeong Mud Festival,” which took place during the same period. Secondly, an examination of the proportion by industry classification items shows that the composition ratio of retail (tourism shopping) for all three marine leisure events averaged around 5%.
Thirdly, when examining the induced coefficient results for each comparison target for regional industry linkage analysis, different calculation methods were applied. If a reliable regional input-output table is not provided when quantitatively analyzing the economic ripple effects of sports events, there is a possibility of overestimation.
Conclusion: This study is significant as it has provided practical implications that can address the seasonal limitations and short-term investigation constraints associated with marine leisure sports.
