This study analyzed whether the themes of each unit in Volume 4 of the “Standard Korean Communication for Elementary Students” series for upper-grade learners are related, and whether the cultural activities are appropriately aligned with the unit topics. The results showed that, although the details of each unit were established without overarching themes for each volume, preventing the provision of a clear overall direction for students, there was a lack of coherence and connection among the themes within Unit 8. In response, the study proposed overarching themes for each textbook and suggested sub-themes related to these main themes. Additionally, for units where the cultural activities lacked close relevance to the themes, the activities were reorganized to better link with the unit topics, thereby ensuring consistency between the themes and the cultural content. To improve instructional quality, the revisions sought to clarify thematic organization and to establish more explicit connections between cultural content and curricular units. Such alignment is expected to support student motivation and facilitate intercultural learning
