As people encounter various cultures of all countries of the world, the tourism industry is the core of competitiveness representing a country’s cultural symbolism and peculiarity and plays an important role in promoting the country. Buddhist temples in South Korea have a geographical merit, the symbolism of the traditional culture and peculiarity, and domestic and foreign tourists prefer them for their historical and cultural values. Yeongchuk-chongrim Tongdo-sa Temple, located in Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do, which has a history of about 1,300 years and has about 70 cultural assets, was selected as a subject, and its integrated identity design was developed to draw the following conclusions. First, this study investigated the history and cultural heritage of Yeongchuk-chongrim Tongdo-sa Temple and identified its high historical and cultural values through a survey. Through this, it was noted that the improvement of deteriorated facilities and environments was an element necessary for the development. Second, through research and analysis of materials, this study could establish strategies for the expression of the temple identity. The key words, drawn through a survey, “relaxing, natural and cultural” and the representative images, “stupa, the inner temple and lotus” were set up as design concepts. Third, based on the drawn concept, the final design was selected through the 1st and 2nd draft processes. The final design succeeded the tradition and expressed modern beauty, utilizing lines and faces with a stupa as a motif. Fourth, this study developed an integrated identity system, used it by dividing into a basic system and an applied system and induced unified use of the identity. As a result, a systematic, integrated identity of Yeongchuk-chongrim Tongdo-sa Temple could be established, and hopefully, as a Buddhist temple representing Korea, it would help construct an effective image, working as a foothold to advance into the world in the future.
