증언과 윤리공동체의 (재)구성 : 로버트 블링코의 『회고록』을 중심으로 = Testimony and (Re)construction of Moral Community in Robert Blincoe’s Memoir

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper revisits A Memoir of Robert Blincoe, An Orphan Boy (1832), which was one of the most influential nineteenth-century British working class factory reform testimonies but has been forgotten in modern history. While Memoir is sometimes categorized as a working class biography or memoir, my paper reads the text primarily as a testimony. I especially pay attention to how Memoir bears witness to not only the violent experiences in early British textile mills but also the breakdown of pre-industrial social bonds. I argue that the remedy that Memoir seeks as a testimony is, naturally both the improvement of laboring conditions in factories and the (re)construction of a moral community to register its story of sufferings and to be accountable for remedial actions.
