With the use of uninterruptible power systems (UPS), growing rapidly, Hitachi UPS have been enhanced and expanded with a unit capacity from 1 to 600 kVA now available. In the small-capacity power systems for office automation, the low-noise compact-type HIVERTER-88 Series have been developed using MOS FET technology to increase the control carrier frequency. In the medium-capacity power systems for minicomputer and plant instrumentation applications, the stand-by type HIVERTER-850α as been developed, introducing pulse width modulation (PWM) control and integrating the commercial bypass system. For the large-capacity UPS, an computer simulation method is applied to coordinate operation with the emergency generator. And, an online-monitor system has been developed to remotely observe the UPS operation and improve the mainability.
