This study was undertaken to verify various relations between dental health belief and related behaviors in mothers and children. Data for this study were obtained by 264 pairs of 1st and 3rd grade elementary school children and their mothers by self developed questionnaire. The questionnaires are made on the general socio-economical characteristics, the oral health knowledge and the behaviors relative to the oral health and oral health education as to how mothers implement the oral health related activities for their children, while for the questionnaires have been measured relative to the oral health beliefs and health behaviors for the children. The obtained results have shown that mothers become with more ages, the usefulness to prevent children's oral diseases becomes lower, and as much as mothers have higher education level, the sensitivity relative to the oral diseases has been measured low. To the degree that the students live well in economical respect, it has been found that they placed more importance on the oral health. As much as the number of mothers tooth brushing becomes made more in a day, the tooth brushing of the children becomes more that much, and also has higher level of oral health beliefs. The number of children to see dentists has been found high, and to the extent of increasing frequency of visiting dental clinics. As the number of mothers tooth brushing education becomes made more frequent for the children. Also, as mothers put more restriction on the sugar intakes by the children, they placed higher importance on the oral health for their children. In conclusion oral health behavior in mothers' influence on dental health belief of their children, it has been reviewed necessary to activate more the mother-children joint oral health education and oral health projects that mothers and children take part together, as well as to study more in accurate and systematic approaches through more comprehensive and various subjects and elements further in the future.

Oral health knowledge of health-related major was higher than the health-unrelated, and oral health behaviors as oral health interest tooth brushing, dental floss, tongue cleaner of health-related major were higher than health-unrelated major group. In the correlation between health-related major and health-unrelated of behaviors, oral health interest, scaling experience and tooth brushing education, of health-related major group were higher incidence. The use of oral care products, dental floss tongue cleaner and interdental toothbrushes were more significantly higher than health-unrelated. Therefore, a lot of research of subject for university students and development and verification of oral health education tools that can improve oral health knowledge and oral health care is necessary.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the associated factors with oral health behavior in public health majoring students. Methods: Using convenience sampling method, the subjects were 474 health-related majoring students in Jeollanamdo. A self-reported questionnaire was completed from September 1 to 15, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, oral health related characteristics, oral health knowledge and behavior. Data were analyzed using SAS 9.3 version. T-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to evaluate the related factors with oral health behavior. Cronbach’s in oral health knowledge in this study was 0.52 and that in oral health behavior was 0.80. Results: The overall score of oral health behavior was 3.38±0.52. Of all behaviors, the practice in brush of teeth and tongue had the highest mean score. In multiple regression analysis, oral health knowledge in the nursing and dental hygiene students was positively associated with the oral health behavior(=0.04, p=0.003, =0.23, p=0.003, and =0.18, p=0.034, respectively). Necessity of dental care, one of oral symptom, and more than two oral symptoms were negatively associated with oral health behavior(=-0.14, p=0.002, =-0.11, p=0.037, and =-0.17, p=0.011, respectively). Conclusions: Higher oral health knowledge showed higher levels of oral health behavior. These results will enhance the quality of oral health behavior by increasing the level of oral health knowledge. The optimal oral health education program would be able to improve oral health behavior by increasing the level of oral health knowledge.
Oral Health Impact Profile, EuroQol을 이용한 구강건강의 효용성 측정
신호성 ( Hosung Shin ),안은숙 ( Eunsuk Ahn ) 대한예방치과·구강보건학회 2018 대한구강보건학회지 Vol.42 No.2
Objectives: Given that oral health is one of the major factors affecting the quality of life, it is necessary to measure the oral-health-related-quality-of-life dimension in order to value health. The aim of this study was to compare the dimensions of oral-health-related quality-of-life measured by a generic health measure [EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D)] and an oral health specific measure [Oral Health Impact Profile 14 (OHIP-14)]. Methods: A questionnaire including EQ-5D, OHIP-14, self-rated general/oral health, and visual analog scale (VAS) was developed, and both patients and dentists participated in measuring the patient’s oral health-related quality of life based on oral diseases. Data was collected from the Dental University Hospital from 2016 to 2017. For descriptive analysis, t-test, chi-square, ANOVA, Tukey HSD post-test, and Pearson correlation analysis were performed. To confirm the factors associated with EQ-5D, multiple regression analysis was conducted. Results: A total of 305 subjects were selected for the final analysis excluding the partially missing questionnaires. EQ-5D and OHIP-14 showed a statistically significant correlation and a sensitive distribution of the values depending on the oral diseases. The values of EQ-5D and OHIP-14 ranged from highest to lowest in the following order of oral diseases: endodontic, TMJ, gingivitis, and tooth sensitivity. A 10-point increase in OHIP-14 was associated with a 0.34-point increase in EQ-5D. Conclusions: The result of this study proved to be consequential since both OHIP-14 and EQ-5D were good measures for oral health-related quality of life, and the oral disease status could also be measured in terms of health valuation weights. This increased the possibility of comparison with general health, and provided the loss of socioeconomic costs of individuals, families, and societies due to oral diseases.
