Vol.13 No.1
Objective: This study examined the effects of grandfathers' positive parenting behavior, and fathers' positive parenting behavior on school-age boys' school adjustment. Methods: A total of 217 5th and 6th grade male elementary school students (126 5th graders and 91 6th graders) and their fathers living in Seoul and Gyeongnam province participated in the study. The data were analyzed using correlations, and structural equation modeling. Results: Grandfathers' positive parenting behavior indirectly influenced boys' school adjustment through their fathers' positive parenting behavior. It means that fathers who perceived their fathers' parenting behavior as more positive showed a higher level of positive parenting behavior, which led to a more positive school adjustment for their sons. Conclusion/Implications: These results uncovered the pathways from grandfathers' positive parenting behavior to school-age boys' school adjustment through their fathers' positive parenting behavior in an aspect of the intergenerational transmission of parenting. In addition, these findings have implications for future research of developing intervention programs for school-age boys' school adjustment and parent education programs to facilitate fathers' positive parenting behavior for school-age children's school adjustment.

The current study aims to investigate the mediating effect of fathers` emotional regulation in the relationship between fathers` parenting stress and parenting behavior. To explore the effect, survey was conducted among 203 fathers of infants and young children in childcare centers and kindergartens in Gyeonggi-do. For the analysis of datas, SPSS statistical analysis was performed. Pearson correlations and mediation effects were analyzed. The results of the analysis are as follows.: First, there is meaningful correlation among fathers` parenting stress, fathers` parenting behavior, and fathers` emotional regulation. Second, Fathers` parenting stress on parenting of affection and parenting of independence oriented was significantly effective. And, only active emotion regulation style has mediating effects on parenting of affection and parenting of independence oriented. These results suggest that the style of father`s emotional regulation is very important to mediate between parenting stress and parenting. Thus, active style of emotional regulation is mostly effective in that it mediate father`s parenting stress and influence on parenting. These results imply that fathers should need education of emotional regulation as well as supports for it. On the other hand, father must have many resources and opportunity to decrease parenting stress such as Child Care Leave System,

Objectives: Understanding peer play behaviors in young children is crucial because children’s personal characteristics influence their peer play behaviors. In this study, we investigated the relationship between children’s temperament (4 years old), fathers’ parenting behavior (5 years old), and peer play behavior (6 years old) using longitudinal data from the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC). In addition, the mediating effect of fathers’ parenting behavior on the relationship between children’s temperament and peer play behavior was investigated. Methods: A total of 1,070 children and their fathers were extracted for analysis from the Korean Children’s Panel Study (PSKC) 2012 (Year 5) to 2014 (Year 7). The correlations between the relevant variables and the mediating effects of fathers’ parenting behavior were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 25.0. Results: Correlation analysis showed that children’s emotionality and sociability were associated with fathers’ parenting behavior, whereas their sociality and activity were associated with their play disturbance. Next, there was no mediating effect of fathers’ warmth on the relationship between children’s temperament and children’s peer play interactions. The full mediating effects of the fathers’ control on the relationship between the child’s temperament (emotionality and sociability) and peer play behaviors such as disruption and disconnection were confirmed. Children’s activity had a direct effect on their peer play interaction and disruption. Conclusion: Peer play behavior revealed the importance of fathers’ controlling parenting behaviors and children’s temperament, especially in peer play disruption and disconnection. In particular, we confirmed the influence of father’s controlling parenting behavior on children’s sociability and emotionality temperament.

Objective: This study aims to explore the factors influencing different types of paternal parenting behaviors among fathers with preschool-aged children. Methods: Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 29.0. Descriptive statistics, skewness, and kurtosis were examined to understand the demographic characteristics of the study subjects. Correlation analysis was performed prior to identifying factors influencing parenting behavior types. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to explore the factors influencing each type of parenting behavior. Results: Fathers' openness and informational support positively influenced ideal parenting behavior. Risk factors for neglectful parenting behavior included the number of children, marital conflict, and work-father role conflict. Contradictory parenting behavior was influenced by fathers' extroversion and children's emotionality. Conclusions: This study deepens the understanding of paternal parenting by identifying factors influencing different types of parenting behaviors in the Korean sociocultural context. Based on these findings, the study suggests the need for tailored support measures for each parenting type, such as providing parenting-related information, supporting marital conflict resolution and work-family balance, and enhancing understanding of child temperament. The results of this study can serve as important foundational data for developing paternal parenting support policies and programs.

Vol.44 No.5
The purpose of this study was to explore the mediating effects of parenting alliance and father-child relationships on the relationship between parental beliefs and warm parenting behaviors. The subjects of the study were 172 fathers with young children in Seoul. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and stepwise regression analysis of Baron and Kenny (1986) were conducted with Bootstrapping to test the significance. The results were as follows. First, there was a significant correlation between parental beliefs (beliefs about children, beliefs about parents), warm parenting behaviors, parenting alliance, and father-child relatinships. (intimacy, conflict). Second, in the relationship between parental beliefs (beliefs about children, beliefs about parents) and warm parenting behaviors, parenting alliance had a partial mediating effect. In addition, in the relationship between beliefs about children and warm parenting behaviors, there was a partial mediating effect of intimacy and there was a complete mediating effect of intimacy in the relationship between beliefs about parents and warm parenting behaviors. Furthermore, in the relationship between parental beliefs (beliefs about children, beliefs about parents) and warm parenting behaviors, conflict had a partial mediating effect. These results show that for fathers’ positive parenting behaviors, it is important to support parenting alliance and father-child relationships along with parental beliefs, and that intimacy with children is especially important for fathers.

Vol.25 No.12
Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relationships among father’s paternal involve ment, mother’s self-esteem, marital conflict, parenting stress, and parenting behavior and to investigate potential differences in the magnitude of the mediating effects of mothers’ self-esteem, marital conflict, and parenting stress. Methods For these goals, we applied Hayes' PROCESS Macro v4.3.1 and PROCESS Model 4 to 2,567 data from the the Korean Early Childhood Education and Care Panel survey(2022). We also demonstrated Bootstrapping to compare between sizes of mediating effects. Results Results were obtained as follows: First, it was confirmed that fathers' participation in parenting increased mothers' self-esteem and lowered mothers' marital conflict and parenting stress. Second, father's participation in parenting and mother's self-esteem had a positive effect on mother's positive parenting behavior, and mother's parenting stress had a negative effect on mother's positive parenting behavior. Marital conflict did not explain the mother's positive parenting behavior. Third, it was confirmed that the father's parenting participation had a positive effect on positive parenting behavior mediated by the mother's self-esteem, and the father's parenting partic ipation had a positive effect on positive parenting behavior through the mother's parenting stress. Fourth, the big gest mediating effect is parenting stress, followed by mediating effect of self-esteem. Conclusions This study suggests that mother's positive parenting behaviors can be promoted by increasing fa ther’s parental behavior, and its effect can get greater when father’s involvement can increased in terms of low ering mothers' parenting stress.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal reciprocal relationship between fathers’ parenting attitude and preschoolers’ externalizing behavior problem. Methods: The study sample consisted of 1,777 fathers and their preschool children (aged 5-7 years, 912 boys and 865 girls) from the Panel Study on Korean Children. Data from three waves were analyzed using the autoregressive cross-lagged modeling. Results: Our analysis showed that fathers’ parenting attitude and preschoolers’ externalizing behavior problem were moderately stable over time. Second, a reciprocal causal relationship was found between fathers’ affective parenting and preschoolers’ externalizing behavior problem. In other words, fathers’ prior affective parenting had a significantly negative effect on preschoolers’ later externalizing behavior problem, and the preschoolers’ prior externalizing behavior problem had a significantly negative effect on fathers’ later affective parenting. Third, the multi-group analysis revealed that there was no significant gender difference. Conclusion: Our findings show that there is an interrelationship between fathers’ parenting attitude and preschoolers’ externalizing behavior problem. Given that preschoolers’ prior externalizing behavior problem decreases fathers’ later affective parenting, which in turn is likely to worsen preschoolers’ later externalizing behavior problem, we recommend finding ways to make fathers show affective parenting regardless of preschoolers’ externalizing behavior problem.
