The thesis of this paper is as follows. The home was the most fundamental educational institution in Ancient Israel and the parent had responsibility for the education of their children for the permanence of covenant throughout generation. Many scholars have searched the evidence from Ancient Near East countries and Palestine Inscriptions to analogize the existence of schools in Ancient Israel. However, due to the lack of the evidence they could only provide some plausible hypotheses. However, we can conclude from the relationship between covenant and children education in the Old Testament that home was the most fundamental educational institution in Ancient Israel. The covenant of God was succeeded from the parent to the children from generation to generation with permanence. The children were the channel of the fulfillment of God`s covenant and they were the object of God`s judgment and restoration in God`s redemptive history. The importance of children from the perspective of the permanence of covenant had influenced Ancient Israelites to formate the unique lifestyle of education. Genesis 18:16-21 shows the Abrahamic covenant and the responsibility and appropriateness of children education to fulfill it. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 demonstrates the commandment of children education to all Israelites under the Mosaic covenant. The children education in Ancient Israel provides connecting link to bind between the past generation and the generation to come for the permanence of covenant of God.
