        Same Nation, Different Nationalisms in Korea: Park Chung-hee vs. Kim Il-sung

        The Korean Peninsula is home to the same nation, but two different nationalisms. In the South, Park Chung-hee reinvented developmental nationalism, while in the North Kim Il-sung reinvented socialist nationalism. Although their political ideologies differed, they mobilized nationalism in similar ways with similar goals: self-reliant economy and defense. The legacy of Japanese colonialism, the Cold War framework, and their own obsession with power and political strategies acted on the nationalism they pursued in complex ways, resulting in a total divergence of character in the two nationalisms. This paper examines the development of Park Chung-hee's and Kim Il-sung's divergent nationalisms, analyzing how the same nation can reinvent different nationalisms, how those within the same nation can become enemies, and how, by whom, and within what structures ethnic nationalism is mobilized and given political power.

        IT 기술력으로 대한민국을 연결하다: 메쉬코리아의 성공 메커니즘 분석

        온라인 쇼핑 시장의 발전과 코로나19 바이러스의 확산으로 비대면 생활 시대가 점진되면서 라스트 마일 시장(Last Mile Market)은 유래 없는 호황을 맞이하고 있다. 이제는 배송의 대상이 음식에 국한되지 않고 편의점, H&B 스토어 등 비(非)음식분야까지 서비스가 보편화 되었다. 본 연구는 라스트 마일 업계에서 IT(Information Technology) 기술력을 기반으로 성공적인 성장을 거듭하고 있는 메쉬코리아의 성공 사례를 자원기반이론(RBV)의 확장 모델로 평가되는 SER-M 패러다임을 통해 분석했다. 주체의 특성, 환경적 조건, 자원의 역량요인 등이 융합 · 결합을 통해 어떠한 메커니즘을 형성하여 성공할 수 있었는지, 그리고 더 큰 성장을 위해 어떤 도전과제에 직면하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 선순환적 성장 메커니즘을 구축시켜준 주요 원동력은 다음과 같이 나타났다. 첫째, 주체변수의 특성은 창업가의 기업가정신으로 나타났다. 메쉬코리아의 창업주 유정범 대표는 아버지의 장례식장에서 배달 시스템의 비효율성을 보면서 이를 개선하기 위해 창업을 결심했다. 유대표의 기업가 정신은 현장 중시 철학인 ‘우문현답’, 모두에게 이익이 되도록 하려는 모토인 ‘세상에서 가장 깨끗한 1원의 가치’, 그리고 흔히 라이더(Rider)라 부르는 배송기사들에 대한 ‘섬김의 리더십’실천으로 부각된다. 둘째, 성공을 위한 환경적 요인은 온라인 쇼핑이 활성화되어 라스트 마일 사업이 확대된 시장 환경, 인공지능(AI), 빅데이터 등 다양한 기술의 발전에 힘입어 신유통 등 물류 시장에 혁신의 바람을 불게 한 시대적 환경, 그리고 코로나-19 신종 바이러스 확산에 따른 강력한 사회적 거리두기 조치등의 정책적 환경이 새로운 기회를 제공한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 유정범 대표의 기업가 정신과 코로나 팬데믹 환경에 더하여 메쉬코리아가 보유하고 있는 인적, 물적 자원을 업계에서 유일하게 직영 구조로 운영하는 전략적 자원으로 구축 및 활용함으로써 글로벌 배송 업체까지도 벤치마킹하고자 하는 메쉬코리아의 선순환적 성공 메커니즘이 사내외로 확산되고 있음을 확인하였다. 논문의 마지막 부분에서는 대부분의 사업과 산업이 어려움에 처한 상황에서도 배송업계에 대한 낙관적 전망에 따라 포화상태로 접어들고 있는 라스트 마일 업계에서 메쉬코리아가 향후 직면하게 될 도전과제에 대하여 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 메쉬코리아의 성공적 성장사례를 통해 스타트업 기업들의 시장진입 및 성장전략, 그리고 그 과정에서 직면하게 되는 이슈와 과제를 어떻게 대응하고 극복해 갈 것인지에 대한 방법을 토론하는 데 그 의미를 두고자 하였다. The Last Mile Market is experiencing an unprecedented boom due to advent of the non-faceto-face life era caused by the development of the online shoppong market and the spread of the COVID-19. The target of delivery is not limited to food, and services have become common in non-food fields such as convenience stores and H&B stores. This study analyzed the success cases of Mesh Korea, which has achieved successful results based on IT(Information Technology) in the Last Mile Industry, through a ser-M model. and this study examines what kind of mechanisms the subject, environment, and resourse factors could have formed and succeeded through fusion and combination, and what challenges they face for greater growth. CEO Rhyu Jeong-beom, founder of Mesh Korea, decided to start a business in order to improve the inefficiency of the delivery system at his father’s funeral. His entrepreneurship is “Woo Moon Hyeon-dap(The answer to our problem is in the field),” a philosophy that focuses on the field, “the cleanest value of 1 won in the world,” and the leadership of serving delivery riders. Environmental factors for success were analyzed by dividing in to Market Environment in which the Last Mile Market has expanded due to active online shopping, The environment of the times in which various technologies such as AI(artificial intelligence) and big data have been developed to blow the wind of innovation in the logistics market. and Policy Environment such as strong social distancing following the spread of the COVID-19. This study presents the challenges that Mesh Korea will face in the future in the last mile industry, which is saturated with indyustry optimism. And it is meaningful in discussing how to overcome the start-up and growth of start-up companies and the challenges they will face through the case of Mesh Korea.

        DVB-H antenna structure using Z-type hexagonal ferrite for folder-type mobile phones

        <P>A new internal antenna structure using a Z-type hexagonal ferrite is introduced for the DVB-H reception in folder-type mobile phones. The antenna element operates as a coupling element to excite the chassis as a radiator. Using a Z-type hexagonal ferrite, the proposed antenna can be designed with a considerably low volume of 0.75 cm<SUP>3</SUP> and meets the requirements of antenna for the DVB-H service. The high isolation over 15 dB between the DVB-H band and the communication bands (GSM, DCS, and PCS) is obtained. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.         The enterprising evaluation for the Korean National Long-Term Ecological Research (KNLTER) Project for six years (Review)

        The Korean National Long-Term Ecological Research (KNLTER) project seeks to predict the effects on Korean ecosystems caused by stress derived from environmental changes from a national perspective. The objective of this article about the KNLTER program, continuously supported by the Ministry of Environment (MOE) since 2004, was to inspect the general plans and to evaluate the project for the KNLTER program objectively, and to make suggestions about the developmental direction of the project. As a result of evaluation on the research site, the numbers of research sites in 2010 correspond to 50% of those presented in the basic plan of the KNLTER project. As a result of evaluation on the research contents in the terrestrial ecosystem section of the KNLTER project, monitoring of climatic and atmospheric changes using eco-towers should be conducted over a long-term period. Additionally, the soil respiration part of the study needs to be expanded further in order to better understand soil systems. In the freshwater ecosystem section, we need to establish common standard investigation items, which can be used as indicators of the actual freshwater environment, considering that freshwater ecosystem management is closely related to human life. In the coastal ecosystem section, we should intensively analyze the correlation between the collected data accumulated thus far, as well as environmental changes including climate change, pollution, etc. For very sensible cases such as topographic changes due to rises in sea level, we should generate data applicable to prediction and confrontation for future changes through the continuous addition of variables and applications of a variety of simulation methods. In the animal ecology section, we should evaluate ecosystem changes based on animal phenology by selecting indicator animal species, which can be applied to each relevant ecosystem: namely, terrestrial, freshwater, and coastal ecosystems. As a result of synthetic evaluation conducted under the auspices of KNLTER, the stability of study areas is frequently implicated as the most common problem. If private lands are designated as study sites, it is very difficult to maintain them as study sites for a prolonged period. Therefore, it is necessary to designate national and public lands, such as national or provincial parks, as study sites. Efforts thus far conducted toward the construction of an appropriate database and modeling studies remain insufficient. After investigating the phenology of the specific species growing in all research sites, it is necessary to assess and report the overall changes in Korean ecosystems by applying that knowledge. The collection, analysis, and systematization of recent domestic and foreign research data related to natural ecosystem changes owing to environmental changes such as climate change and environmental pollution have been insufficient. Therefore, studies performed to obtain this information should be continuously pursued in the third stage.

        Dynamic Analysis of Double Excited 3-DOF Motor Modeling Using Equivalent Magnetic Circuit

        This paper implements a model of a double excited three-degree-of-freedom motor (3-DOF) coupled with a PI current controller for position control. The rotational trends of the rotor according to the applied steps are identified using a motion equation. The simulation model is a complete electrical and mechanical model of a 3-DOF motor, which mainly consists of mechanical torque equations, a nonlinear equivalent magnetic circuit, and a PI current controller. This machine is tested using the manufactured control board using the same conditions as in the simulation, where the experimental results also verify the accuracy of the simulation results.

        The Origins of Korean Chaebols and their Roots in the Korean War

        The driving thesis behind this study is to place the formation of Korean Chaebols squarely in the 1950s, corresponding directly with the outbreak and conduct of the Korean War. The Korean War provided enough new market demand for the emersion of Korea's Chaebols. During and after the War, disposal of ex-Japanese enterprises, relief funds, government reserved dollar allocations and bank finance loans provided the grounds for the formation of Chaebols. This study emphasizes the need to couple the Cbeebols' rent seeking behaviors with their divergent strategies and abilities to utilize and maximize productivity. It substantiates, from case studies, that contrary to conventional wisdom, political factors are neither the sole nor majority cause for the growth of these Chaebols; rather, their growth owes largely to government's economic policies and their economic strategy and market adaptability. In short, the emergence of Korean Chaebols originates in the 1950s in the War's aftermath. And the developmental trajectory of Chaebols is characterized by an economic factor- pulled continuity rather than a political factor-pushed discontinuity.

        A Glance of Electron Tomography through 4th International Congress on Electron Tomography

        Electron tomography (ET) is an electron microscopic technique for obtaining a 3-D image from any electron microscopy specimen and its application in biomedical science has been increased thanks to development of electron microscopy and related technologies during the last decade. There are few researches on ET in Korea during this period. Although the importance of ET has been recognized recently by many researchers, initial approach to electron tomographic research is not easy for beginners. The 4th International Congress on Electron Tomography (4 ICET) was held on Nov 5~8, 2006, at San Diego. The program dealt instrumentation, reconstruction algorithm, visualization/quantitative analysis and electron tomographic presentation of biological specimen and nano particles. I have summarized oral presentations and analyzed the posters presented on the meeting. Cryo-electron microscopic system was popular system for ET and followed conventional transmission electron microscopic system. Cultured cell line and tissue were most popular specimens analyzed and microorganisms including bacteria and virus also constituted important specimens. This analysis provides a current state of art in ET research and a guide line for practical application of ET and further research strategies.

      • DVB-H Antenna Design Using Folder-Type Chassis and Coupling Element on a Ferrite

        <P>This letter presents a new design concept of the digital video broadcast-handheld (DVB-H) antenna using the folder-type chassis and coupling element on a ferrite. By utilizing the chassis as a radiator in conjunction with a compact coupling element on a ferrite, the antenna achieves DVB-H operation without an additional matching circuit. The measured result shows the wide bandwidth of 250 MHz (VSWR< 6) with sufficient peak gains over -5 dBi in the DVB-H band.</P>
