A Study on the Perforating Process of the Muffer Tube using FEM

Recently there has been a growing interest in the design and manufacturing of the muffler tube due to the strict environment regulations. A muffler is an important part used to reduce noise and to purify exhaust gas in cars and heavy equipment. The shape of the muffler tube and the number of the tube hole has been made variously according to the weight and function of the car. The perforating technique of the muffler tube has a great influence on the manufacturing cost. In this study, metal forming analysis has been carried out to investigate the perforating process for the muffler tube and predict an optimal forming conditions of the muffler tube. Also its simulation results by the finite element method were reflected to the die design and the manufacturing system for the muffler tube. The perforating process is performed in the longitudinal direction of the tube. According to the simulation results, when the shear angle of punch was similar to the tube curvature, the optimal shape was obtained. Also when the clearance of die was 0.2mm, the burr was minimized and optimal shear section was obtained.

The study is concerned with the theoretical and experimental investigation of the elliptical bulge test. The elliptical bulge test is analyzed by using a rigid-plastic finite element method incorporating large deformation and normal anisotropy.Thin elliptical diaphragms of mild steel are bulged for three aspect ratios. The contact problem between the die round and the sheet is successfully solved by using a skew boundary condition. It is shown that the proper consideration of die radius and normal anisotropy is very significant. The relation between bulging pressure and deformation is obtained. It has been found that the pole is nearly under proportional straining during deformation. The computional results are in good agreement with experimental results and to be very useful for a better understanding of the elliptical bulge test.

디이프드로잉 성형공정에 미치는 마찰의 영향에 대한 유한요소해석 및 실험적 연구

The study in this paper was fovused on the prediction of the effect of the frictions between die and blank, and between punch and blank which affected the limit drawing ratio, strain distribution and forming load. The profile of the punch was hemispherical, and stress state and anisotropy were assumed plane stress state and planar isotropy, normal anisotropy respectively. The constivtutive equation was derived from Hill's anistropy theorem with this assumption. The experimental results agreeded with theoretical results, and the results obtained wree as follows : (1) If the frictional coefficient between punch and blank increased and that between die and blank decreased, the limit drawing ratio increased. (2) The frictional coefficient between punch and blank die not nearly affect on the punch load.

Grinding technology in morden industry society is focusing on research and development for grinding stone and machin-ing parts for the purpose of high accuracy and high efficiency of products. But, in order to equip the high technology and high accuracy of micro stone which is one of grinding stone, a continuous effort on R & D is required. In this study, the honing processing work of 2 cycle engine cylinder for motorcycle which has an open hole is carried out so as to investigate the boring and hone stone effects on accuracy of honing. As the experimental result of this study, we could conclude that it is possible to secure good conditions of honing by controlling and keeping appropriate cycle-time in the stage of boring for the prior step of honing,

As the development of the utilization in automobile, aerospace and electrical fields, the machining process of honeycomb core part is analyzed. Because of the precision shape and the thin thickness, a honeycomb core is not easy to manufacture in realistic process. In this paper, a practical method is raised to treat this problem. And the punching, cutting and welding process are used in the design.
