Various kinds of transportation developed as a favorite pet characterizing the 20th century, contrary to their splendid features as today's modern conveniences, are confronted by the limit of development under the condition that they are the principal offender of air-pollution and traffic accidents. As the 21th century is near at hand each advanced countries are groping for new energy sources and super-low pollutional, safe and comfortable means of transport. Korea was late for industrialization and yet has been followed the western design not providing our own pedigree and identity of design up to the present. So the history of transportation design has been chronologically reviewed to provide a foundation for the future development of Korean transportation design.
신제품 개발과정에 있어서 제품디자인 업무에 관한 연구 : 국내 제조업(사례)을 중심으로

국내외 기업간의 경쟁이 격화되고 있다. 그 경쟁의 성격은 생산경쟁에서 그리고 신제품 경쟁으로 옮아가고 있다. 그 배경이 되는 가장 큰 요인으로는 상품의 다양화와 product life cycle의 단축을 들 수 있다. 그것은 대부분 기술의 뒷받침과 함께 디자인의 다양성과 비중이 커지고 있다는 의미이다. 제조업에서 경쟁력 있는 신제품이야말로 기업의 사활이 걸린 중차대한 과제인데 여기에는 필연적으로 제품디자인 과정이 있게 되고 그 과정에서 기획, 영업, 기술 등의 부분과 밀접한 관계하에 성공적인 디자인이 성립되는데 그 과정의 의사소통이 무엇보다 중요하다. 따라서 사례(국내 제조업)를 통하여 조직·구조·과정을 비교하여 본 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 확인하였다. 각 기업은 문화·조직·경영방침에 따라 각기 다른 신제품 개발 조직·과정을 가지고 있고 운영체계를 가지고 있으므로 정형화된 프로세스를 제시하기는 어렵고 다만 각 기업마다의 독특한 프로세스를 (기업 규모에 따라) 마련하고 기업의 여건과 시장상황에 따라 탄력적으로 운영하는 것이 바람직한데 그 여건은 다음과 같다. ① 시장선점, 공기(工期)단축, 납기준수 등 시간단축의 노력 ② 중품질·저가격보다는 질 중심의 고부가가치를 디자인의 고급화로 실현할 것 ③능률적인 디자인 조직·행동 중심의 리더십 등이다. 디자이너의 고유능력인 조형능력은 창의력을 바탕으로 성취될 수 있으므로 독창적 idea를 발휘할 수 있는 자율적 분위기, 조직(team)간의 원활한 의사소통, 자기계발을 위한 분위기(학습조직)를 조성해 줌으로써 신제품 개발에 성공할 수 있게 된다. Competition among companies, both domestic and foreign, are getting intense. The nature of the competition is changing from production, to sales, and then to new products. Among the most important factors behind this competition for newer products are the diversification of the products and their shortened life cycle. What this means is that, suported by technological advancement, diversity and importance of design is increasing. In the manufacturing sector, development of a new, competitive product is the singlemost important task, and every development process necessarily involves a process of product design. A successful design can come about only in close cooperation with the planning , sales, and technology division, and thus communication between these inter-related divisions is more important than anything else. Though a case study, this paper investigated the organization, structure, and processes of domestic manufacturing companies, and confirmed the following: It is not appropriate to suggest a standardized design process for universal application, because each company has its own culture, organization, and management policies and consequently has a unique structure and process regarding new product development. However, it is possible, and recommendable, for each company to adopt a unique process best suited to its size and apply it flexibly depending on the situation the company is in and the market situation. Among the factors that should be considered are as follows: ① effort to shorten the overall process, i.e., preempting the market, quickening the manufacturing process, and meeting the delivery data. ② Creation of high 'value added' based on high quality, rather than medium quality with low price, though quality designing. ③ an efficient design teamwork and the action-driven leadership. To bring out each designer's unique 'forming' ability to the fullest only, it is necessary to create a self-regulating environment, an efficient communication channel between team members, and a learning environment conductive to their self-development. When these conditions are met, a success in developing new product automatically follows.
긴급구호에서 개발지원으로 : 국내 NGO의 지원경험과 향후 과제

The humanitarian aid to North Korea is at a turning point now. It already 11years have passed since North Korea officially called on international society for urgent help. South Korean NGOs have played biggest role in providing goods and services on humanitarian purposes. In summer 2004, North Korean government refused to participated in consolidated appeals processes(CAP) of UN. North Koreans also announced that they will only accept collaborative development projects from international community instead of humanitarian aid in August 2005. The purpose of this study is to review and find out the future role of South Korean NGOs' on development collaborations with the North. The key findings are as follows. First, relatively weak and small-sized South Korean NGOs may not become key players because the collaboration on North Korean developments need sources of revenue and abundant developmental experiences. Second, domestic NGOs may serve as honest brokers with experiences, linking South Korean government agencies and North Korean counterparts, during the process of serious development collaboration. Finally, to participate development collaboration independently, the South Korean NGOs need organizational reform, securing financial resources, and specialty. And most of all, a comprehensive blue print for future North Korean development must be constructed in accordance with international financial community.
