Membrane filtration method have been regarded as the most sustainable technology to produce clean water from contaminated water and a tremendous of membranes with different chemical and physical structures have been prepared for water purification. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of heat treated membranes derived from a carboxylated polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM-COOH). The prepared membranes have the same sub-nanosized pore characteristics but they show different chemical composition, carbon to oxygen ratio, with the applied temperature increased. The carbonized PIM-COOH membrane with the highest C/O ratio exhibited the high water flux (4.16 LMH bar-1) and retained good MgSO4 rejection (~82%).

We investigated the electrical properties of Cr(30 nm)/Al(200 nm) contacts to N-polar n-type GaN for high-performance vertical light-emitting diodes and compare them with those of Ti(30 nm)/Al(200 nm) contacts. Before annealing, both the samples show ohmic behaviors with a contact resistivity of 1.9e2.3 × 10-4 Ucm2. Upon annealing at 250 ℃ for 1 min in N2 ambient, the Ti/Al contacts become non-ohmic, while the Cr/Al contacts remain ohmic with a contact resistivity of 1.4 × 103 Ucm2. Based on X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry results,ohmic formation and degradation mechanisms are briefly described and discussed.

In this study, we present first report on carbonization of polymers of intrinsic microporosity(PIM-1). Many different methods such as ultrasonic spray pyrolysis(USP) and spin coating methods were used for preparing various nano-structured PIM-1s. After carbonization at 800~1200°C, all heat-treated PIM-1 had their original shape and their Raman spectra showed D disordered carbon peak at 1330 cm<sup>-1</sup> and G graphitic carbon peak at 1590 cm<sup>-1</sup>. Especially, PIM-1 fabricated by spin coating had properties similar to graphene after carbonization and could be directly used as the transparent electrodes of OSCs, which had a high efficiency of 1.922% transmittance of 63% at 550 nm of wavelength and electrical conductivity of 500 S/cm.
Cytotoxicity and In vivo Biosafety of the Polylactide Based Bone Composite Materials

In this study, we investigated the in vitro cytotoxicity and in vivo biosafety of reinforced polylactide (PLA) composites with hyaluronic acid-chitosan (HACS) complex and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) powder. The cytotoxicity of HACS/PLA (with β-TCP) composites was almost the same as that of neat PLA indicating that HACS/PLA (with β-TCP) composites did not have toxic effects. In in vivo biosafety tests using X-ray and micro-CT imaging, HACS/PLA (with β-TCP) composites did not show any fracture during 20 weeks of implantation in the tibia and femur of rabbits. The HACS/PLA (with β-TCP) composites did not induce severe inflammatory responses such as recruitment of macrophages around the implantation site, as assessed by H&E and immune staining of biopsy samples, for 6 weeks after insertion into SD rats. Addition of β-TCP powder to HACS/PLA composite enhanced bone induction and regeneration. The HACS/PLA composites prepared in the present study have potential maxillofacial and orthopedic applications.
2P-81 Preparation of carboxylate functionalized PIMs for gas separation membranes

Polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) have recently gained considerable attention for gas separation membrane, owing to their high surface area and solution processability. Since PIM-1, representative PIMs, have been synthesized, many researchers prepared novel PIMs containing various functionalities such as tetrazole and thioamide and they showed excellent gas separation properties. Several researchers have reported on carboxylate functionalized PIMs but highly carboxylate functionalized and solution-processable PIMs have not been prepared yet. In this work, highly carboxylate functionalized PIMs were prepared by alkaline hydrolysis methods and this reaction process was observed by 1H NMR and FT-IR. The highly carboxylate functionalized PIM membranes exhibits superior gas separation properties for several industrially important gas pairs such as CO<sub>2</sub>/N<sub>2</sub> or O<sub>2</sub>/N<sub>2</sub> pairs.
