BRAF-Mutated Colorectal Cancer Exhibits Distinct Clinicopathological Features from Wild-Type BRAF-Expressing Cancer Independent of the Microsatellite Instability Status

In patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), the BRAF V600E mutation has been reported to be associated with several clinicopathological features and poor survival. However, the prognostic implications of BRAF V600E mutation and the associated clinicopathological characteristics in CRCs remain controversial. Therefore, we reviewed various clinicopathological features, including BRAF status, in 349 primary CRCs and analyzed the relationship between BRAF status and various clinicopathological factors, including overall survival. Similar to previous studies conducted in Eastern countries, the incidence of the BRAF V600E mutation in the current study was relatively low (5.7%). BRAF-mutated CRC exhibits distinct clinicopathological features from wild-type BRAF-expressing cancer independent of the microsatellite instability (MSI) status. This mutation was significantly associated with a proximal tumor location (P = 0.002); mucinous, signet ring cell, and serrated tumor components (P < 0.001, P = 0.003, and P = 0.008, respectively); lymphovascular invasion (P = 0.004); a peritumoral lymphoid reaction (P = 0.009); tumor budding (P = 0.046); and peritoneal seeding (P = 0.012). In conclusion, the incidence of the BRAF V600E mutation was relatively low in this study. BRAF-mutated CRCs exhibited some clinicopathological features which were also frequently observed in MSI-H CRCs, such as a proximal location; mucinous, signet ring cell, and serrated components; and marked peritumoral lymphoid reactions.

요즘 다양한 전통문화 체험이 개설되고, 경복궁 야간개장은 기간을 확장할 만큼 큰 인기를 끌었으며 사람들의 한옥마을방문이 많아지는 등 우리 것에 대한 관심과 그 가치는 점점 높아지고 있다. 그러나 우리의 전통춤은 다른 전통분야에 비해 비교적 인지도가 낮고 관심도가 낮다. 그 중에서도 불교의 의식무용은 불교인의 것으로만 치부되어 그 가치에 비해 대중들의 관심을 받지 못하고 있다. 불교의 의식 무용 중 바라춤은 정갈하고, 정돈된 느낌이지만 또 화려하고 웅장한 춤으로 인정받는다. 또 바라춤 동작은 다양한 의미를 내제하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 바라춤의 움직임특징을 분석하고 연구하여 재창조하여야 하는 필요성에 대해 이야기 하고 그 방향성을 제시하는 데에 목적을 둔다. 우리의 전통춤을 현대인들이 조금 더 가깝게 느끼고 관심을 갖을 수 있도록 무용가들의 다양한 시도와 도전이 필요하다. 이러한 시도로 전통춤을 재해석하고 재창조하여 새로운 작품을 공연하는 ``한국무용제전``과 다양한 전통 의식 무를 모티프로 하여 작품을 선보인 국립무용단의 ``제의`` 등 이 있다. 불교의식 무용인 바라춤은 현대 무용가들에게 모티프가 되어 재창조되기에 그 가치가 충분하다.

The Diagnostic Usefulness of HMGA2, Survivin, CEACAM6, and SFN/14-3-3 δ in Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma

Background: Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is the second most common thyroid malignancy and its differential diagnosis includes follicular adenoma (FA) and adenomatous goiter (AG). Several ancillary markers have been suggested to aid in the diagnosis of FTC, but the successful use of these methods still needs to be validated. Methods: In the present study, we verified the immunoexpression of HMGA2, CEACAM6, survivin, and SFN/14-3-3 δ in lesions including 41 AGs, 72 FAs, and 79 FTCs. We evaluated their diagnostic usefulness, combined with galectin 3, Hector Battifora mesothelial 1 (HBME1), cytokeratin 19, and cyclin D1, in diagnosing FTC. Results: The expressions of HBME1 (65.8%) and HMGA2 (55.7%) were significantly higher in FTCs than in FAs and AGs (p<.001 and p=.005, respectively). HBME1 was the only marker that was more frequently expressed in FTCs than in FAs (p=.021) and it was more frequently expressed in follicular neoplasms than in AGs (p<.001). Among the novel markers, the combination of HMGA2 and HBME1 showed the highest sensitivity (72.2%) and specificity (76.1%) for diagnosing FTC. CEACAM6, survivin, and SFN/14-3-3 δ were barely expressed in most cases. Conclusions: Our present results show that only HMGA2 can be beneficial in differentiating FTC using the novel markers.

전자상거래 시장의 급격한 성장에 따라 고객이 원하는 정보를 얻기 위해 소요되는 시간과 노력을 절약하기 위한 방안으로 추천 시스템의 필요성이 강조되고 있다. 추천 시스템에 일반적으로 가장 많이 쓰이는 것이 협업필터링 기법이다. 협업 필터링은 추천시스템 분야에서 가장 성공적인 기법으로 전자 상거래 포털에서 가장 널리 이용되고 있다. 그러나 희박성, 확장성, 투명성 등의 문제점을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 프로파일링 기법을 사용해 협업필터링의 희박성 문제 해소 방안으로 개인성향을 이용하여, 보다 정확한 추천을 하여 온라인 서점에 적용할 수 있는 추천 시스템이다.

Purpose: Because of the technical limitation, the number of microelectrode used for visual prosthesis is limited. Therefore we tried to deliver better visual information expected to attract viewer’s attention efficiently by applying a saliency map and skin detection algorithm. Methods: Seven subjects who had normal sight participated. Their gaze movement was detected about each method. After using histogram equalization, saliency map was applied to original image. Skin detection algorithm was used only when there was human in the image. Results: When using saliency map, subject s gaze movement corresponded much more with attended region in original image than those without the methods by 48 percent. For image with a person, subject’s gaze movement corresponded more with attended region in original image by 6 percent. Conclusions: Saliency map and skin detection delivered attended visual information more simply and more quickly.

최근 전자상거래 시장은 시간과 장소의 제약이 없어 무한히 증가되고 있는 추세이다. 화장품은 눈으로 봐서 자신에게 맞는 상품을 선택하기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 사용자의 연령, 관심사, 사용자가 마이 페이지에 추가한 위시리스트 등의 세 가지 정보에 가중치를 부여하여 사용자와 비슷한 유사도를 보인 회원에게 화장품을 추천하는 시스템이다. 또한, 기존 사용자들의 관심도를 보여주기 위하여 블러그 정보를 제공한다.

Regular exercise and a certain level of physical activity reduce the mortality rate in the elderly. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of physical activity on the prevention of fracture in the middle aged or older in Korea. The basic data are based on the Ansan and Ansung community cohort studies of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study conducted by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2001, and the fracture data from the third survey in 2005 to the sixth survey in 2011. The physical activity of the aged in the 40s was mostly distributed in the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended range of 7.5 to 30.0 metabolic equivalent·hr/wk, and the activity was gradually divided into the low and high groups in the 50s and 60s. In the 60s, the risk of fracture was reduced to 0.63 times compared to that of the 50s when physical activity was the recommended level (odds ratio, 0.63; p<0.001). For Korean adults, there was no significant difference in fracture incidence according to the amount of physical activity in the middle-aged people. However, for the elderly aged 60 and over, the risk of fracture decreased when the WHO recommended level of activity was performed, and the risk increased when less or more activities were performed.

We developed an endoscopic image artifact classifier for blur and saturation using generated images to enable real-time quality assessment during endoscopic examinations. After training StyleGAN-ADA with real images free of artifacts, we fine-tuned the model using real images with single or dual artifacts. As a result, the classifier trained with single-artifact generated images demonstrated the highest performance in artifact classification.
