코로나 19는 기자들의 취재관행에 어떤 영향을 주었나?: 팬데믹 전후의 근무형태 변화에 대한 기자 인식을 중심으로

이 연구는 코로나 19 팬데믹이 지난 1년 동안 한국 언론사 기자들의 취재 관행, 조직 내부 관행, 뉴스 생산에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있는지를 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 종합일간지, 경제일간지, 뉴스통신사, 방송사에 근무하는 취재 기자를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 하였다. 그 결과, 기자들은 한 번도 경험하지 못한 재택근무를 하고 있으며, 출입처가 통제되거나 폐쇄되어 현장 취재에 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 기자들은 취재원을 직접 만나기 어려워 전화나 SNS를 통한 간접 취재와 온라인 브리핑에 의존하고 있으며, 결과적으로 뉴스의 다양성과 현장성이 떨어지고 현장 감시기능이 약화하고 있다는 인식을 보였다. 또한, 조직 내 회의나 모임이 사라져 아이디어 교감이나 선후배 간 취재 노하우 전수에도 애로가 있다고 언급하였다. 현재 진행형인 코로나19가 국내 언론의 취재 관행, 조직 내부 관행, 뉴스 생산 등 미디어 생태계에 불러온 변화를 다양한 관점에서 논의하였다. The purpose of this study is to explore and analyze how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the reporting practices and news production of the reporters working with Korean media over the past one year. To this end, this study has conducted in-depth interviews with reporters working with daily newspapers, news agencies, and broadcasting companies. The analysis of the interviews resulted in the following generalizations. The reporters are working at home, which was never experienced before the Covid-19 pandemic, and they have difficulties in covering their reporting beats because they have little or no access to contact points. The reporters rely heavily on indirect coverage and online briefings via phones or SNS because they have difficulties in meeting news sources in person. As a result, the diversity of news contents and the medias on-site monitoring functions has been severely weakened. In addition, the reporters have no chances to both exchange ideas with fellow reporters and to transfer the know-how of collecting news items to their juniors. This paper has also discussed the disruption of practices that the ongoing Covid-19 has brought to the media ecosystem from a variety of perspectives.
정치 이벤트에 대한 신문보도사진 연구 - 역대 남북정상회담 최고통치자 사진을 중심으로

Korean summit were framed and reported according to the newspaper’s reporting tendency. The subject of analysis is the Chosun Ilbo, a conservative newspaper, and the Hankyoreh, a progressive newspaper. A total of 161 cases were analyzed in which two top rulers appeared among the four report photos related to the inter-Korean summits during the Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun and Moon Jae-in administrations. As a result of the study, the media’s ideological faction that appeared in general newspaper articles was also shown in the press photos. The two newspapers sympathized with the creation of a peaceful atmosphere on the Korean Peninsula during the first Pyongyang summit in 2000, which was held for the first time after the division of the two Koreas. However, during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th inter-Korean summits, the faction between the two newspapers became clearer. It was analyzed that the Chosun Ilbo published more photos and reports than the Hankyoreh during the first meeting, but after that, it reported about three times less than the Hankyoreh. The Chosun Ilbo used relatively less friendly and defensive framing than the Hankyoreh when selecting, excluding, and posting photos, and the Hankyoreh was more friendly and more aggressive than the Chosun Ilbo. This means that the press photos also confirmed that ideological symbiotic relations or political parallelism according to the media tendencies are at play. Based on the results of this study, the discussion was focused on a plan to expand the search area of photojournalism.
TV 드라마 의제의 일간신문 뉴스로의 전이과정 : 〈SKY 캐슬〉이 재현한 한국 교육현실을 중심으로

This study examines how major daily newspapers framed and reported on the reality of Korea’s education system in reaction to SKY Castle, a TV drama series that attracted mainstream attention in 2018. Then, it examines the differences in reporting frameworks based on the newspapers’ political leaning. The subjects of this analysis are the conservative newspapers Chosun Ilbo and JoongAng Ilbo and the progressive newspapers Hankyoreh and Kyunghyang Shinmun. This analysis applies the frameworks of Iyengar (1991) and Semetko and Valkenburg (2000). This analysis has found that both conservative and progressive newspapers devoted more than a third of their total reporting on the educational issues portrayed in SKY Castle, such as college admission fairness, comprehensive student selection, college entrance exams, private education, attitude towards education, etc., prominently raising these concerns to the social agenda. Both the conservative and progressive newspapers used cause analysis (39.6%) to diagnose the cause of educational problems and the responsible subject framework (19.4%). Other prominent frameworks used in descending order were moral evaluation (14.4%), conflict (12.9%), economic outcome (7.2%), and solution-proposal (5.8%). A granular analysis of restructured details show that there is a significant difference based on the newspapers’ political leaning. The conservative newspapers regarded entrance exam policies and extreme focus on success as the causes of the major educational problems SKY Castle presents. Progressive newspapers, on the other hand, viewed the overcrowding of private education and educational inequality amongst socioeconomic classes as the causes of the education problems. The conservative newspapers utilized the economic outcome framework more, while the progressive newspapers used the conflict framework more heavily. When using the moral evaluation framework, progressive newspapers emphasized the expedient (illegal) private education issue more (54.5%) than did conservative newspapers (33.3%). We discuss the implications of the media’s reporting frameworks, in terms of academic and policy aspects, on the reality of Korea’s college admissions process.
근로시간 단축이 취재와 뉴스를 어떻게 바꿔 놓았는가? : 주 52시간제 도입에 따른 취재관행과 뉴스생산에 대한 기자 인식을 중심으로

이 연구는 “주 52시간”이라는 근로시간의 제도적 변화가 언론조직의 뉴스생산 과정에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 살펴보기 위해 수행됐다. 구체적으로 이 연구는 근무시간 단축이 기자 개인과 뉴스 조직 내부의 작업관행, 그리고 뉴스생산에 어떤 변화를 가져왔는지 알아보기 위해 일간신문사, 방송사, 뉴스 통신사에 근무하는 기자를 대상으로 심층인터뷰를 실시했다. 분석결과, 기자들은 취재시간이 줄어들었으며, 취재원과의 접촉 횟수가 감소했으며, 전통적인 취재방식인 대면 접촉을 통한 취재 방식이 줄어들었다고 응답했다. 또한 기자들은 조직 내부적으로 게이트키핑이 부실화되고 있으며, 취재와 편집회의가 축소되었으며, 정보공유와 팀워크가 약화되고 있다는 반응도 보였다. 기자들은 근무시간 제약으로 “현장 취재”가 소홀해지면서 감시견으로서의 사회적 기능에 대해 우려했다. 주 52시간 근로시간 단축이 한국 저널리즘 생태계에 어떤 변화를 가져왔는지를 취재원 접근과 관찰, 사실의 선택과 거름, 그리고 편집과 분배 관점에서 토론했다. This study was conducted to examine how the institutional change in working hours of “52-hour workweek” affects the news production process of media organizations. In particular, this study conducted in-depth interviews with reporters working for daily newspapers, broadcasting companies, and news agency to find out how the reduction of working hours has changed the news production process. The analysis results are as follows. Reporters responded that the coverage time was shortened, the number of contact with beat sources decreased, and that the traditional way of reporting, through face-to-face contact decreased. In addition, reporters responded that gate-keeping process is getting loose within the organization, coverage and editorial meetings have been decreased., and information sharing and teamwork are weakening. Reporters were concerned about their social function as a watchdog as “field coverage” was neglected due to working hours restrictions. We discussed how working time variable has brought about the changes to the Korean journalism ecosystem with the perspective of reporter access and observation, selection and filtering of facts, and editing and distribution.
대학수학능력시험 영어영역 절대평가 도입 이후의 공대 신입생들의 영어실력 추이와 영어교육 상황 분석

This study explores the English scores of freshmen engineering colleges in two universities and the professors' and instructors' perceptions on transition of English ability of the students and the situation of English education after the change of English section of College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) from a norm-referenced to a criterion-referenced system. For this study, 10 participants took part in in-depth interviews through a focus group, and the data were analyzed through descriptive coding, which reiterated themes or issues that showed consistent or unique patterns. The key findings of this study are as follows. First, engineering students' English skills have declined after the introduction of absolute evaluation on the English section of the CSAT. Second, engineering students have a tendency to regard English as an insignificant subject. Finally, in regards to the entrance examination policy, rather than going back to using relative evaluation on the English section of the CSAT, it is necessary to absolutely evaluate all subjects and make the CSAT a minimum requirement.
고등학교 영어 공교육 활성화 방안 모색과 영어 학습의 의미 재고 : 내러티브 활용을 중심으로

본 논문은 급변하는 두 가지 대외여건, 즉 AI의 영향력 확대와 한국수학능력시험(KCSAT) 영어과목에 절대채점제 도입이라는 두 가지 급변하는 외부 여건에 대응하여 고등학교 영어교육 수업에서 내러티브 활용을 확대할 것을 제안한다. 내러티브는 단순한 글쓰기 방식이 아니라 서 내러티브 사고를 구현하는 커리큘럼이다. 내러티브는 학습자의 성장에 초점을 맞춘 과정 중심 교육을 지향한다. 또한 삶의 다양한 측면을 재구성하여 학생들에게 창의적인 언어를 사용할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다. 화자와 청자 간의 의사소통을 전제로 하는 내러티브 기반 커리큘럼은 CLT 접근 방식과 일치하며 협동 학습을 위한 자원이 된다. 내러티브를 통한 교육은 학습자의 흥미를 유발하고 전통적인 언어 교육에서 크게 간과되었던 의사소통의 정서적 측면을 탐구하는 장이 된다. 인간 경험의 모순과 예측 불가능성을 인식하고 내러티브 탐구를 통해 학습 구성원과 인간 경험을 재해석하함으로써 공립 영어 교육의 질을 크게 향상시킬 수 있다. 내러티브는 학생의 성장과 의사 소통 능력을 향상시키기 위해 공립 영어 교육에서 간과되어서는 안되는 귀중한 자원이다. 이러한 맥락에서 내러티브의 특성을 활용한 학습자 중심의 과정 지향적인 교육과정 설계는 공립 영어 교육에 시사하는 바가 크다. This paper proposes to expand the use of narrative in high school English education classes in response to two rapidly changing external conditions: the increasing influence of AI and the adoption of an absolute grading system for the English section of the Korean College Scholastic Ability Test (KCSAT English). Narrative is not simply a mode of writing but also a curriculum that realizes narrative thinking in class. Narrative directs a process-oriented education that focuses on the learner s growth. In addition, it provides opportunities for students to use creative language by reconstructing diverse aspects of life. A narrative-based curriculum premised on the communication between speaker and listener is in line with the CLT approach, and it constitutes a strong source of support for cooperative learning. Education through narrative arouses the interest of learners and becomes a place to explore the emotional aspects of communication that are largely overlooked by traditional language teaching. Recognizing the contradictions and unpredictability of human experiences and reinterpreting human experiences with learning members through narrative inquiry significantly improves the quality of public English education. Narrative is a valuable resource that should not be overlooked in public English education because it seeks to improve student growth and communication skills. This aspect is often absent in the private education market, which is typically focused on short-term performance-oriented learning for college entrance exams. In this context, a learner-centered and process-directed design that utilizes the characteristics of narrative has great implications for public English education.
