Induction of erythroleukaemia by F - MuLV and Purification of Erythropoietin

Friend Murine Leukemia Virus (F-MuLV) is affective against 2-day old new borns in NFS/n Swiss mice. Infected babies suffer from splenomegaly and anemia at the age of 4-5 weeks beyond which the condition worsens and is fatal. However, the spleen size can be reduced by hypertransfusion for 8 weeks. If left alone after this treatment, the spleen enlarges and becomes palpable again. This time the spleen cells are transplantable and inflict the same disease if injected to normal adults. While these leukemic cells were considered to be hormone-independent, addition of erythropoietin (EPO) was found to be essential for maximum growth in culture. Influence of EPO on the in vivo growth of leukemic cells was indicated by our findings that administration of the hormone caused a more severe leukemia and rapid death while, transfusion of red blood cells, which lowers endogenous EPO, led to increased survival of leukemic mice. It is suggested that hormone-associated therapy may be efficacious in the treatment of this and perhaps, other leukemias. Several erythroleukemic cell lines released factors which stimulated erythropoiesis in vivo and in vitro. A simple five step scheme has been devised which allows purification of this erythropoietic activity to apparent homogeneity. The methods employed included lectin affinity chromatography (wheat germ agglutinin), gel filteration (ultro gel ACA 44), ion exchange, hydroxylapatite, and high performance liquid chromatography, Following polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, biological activity was recovered in an area corresponding to a molecular weight of 35,000 daltons. Silver staining of a polyacrylamide gel after electrophoresis of our most purified preparation revealed a single band of 35,000 daltons.

Paradasynus spinosus Hsiao, 1963 (Hemiptera:Coreidae:Dasynini), with its higher taxon, the tribe Dasynini, and the genus Paradasynus, is reported from the Korean Peninsula for the first time. The morphological information such as diagnosis and description of male/female genitalia and biological note are presented with photographs and illustrations, and the possibility of its spread in Korea as an insect pest is discussed under climate change.

Two new records of the Deraeocorinae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae) are reported from the Korean Peninsula, Termatophylum hikosanum Miyamoto, 1965 and Fingulus longicornis Miyamoto 1965. With these species, their higher taxa, the tribe Termatophylini and the genus Fingulus are also reported for the first time to the Korean fauna. Morphological and biological information of the species are provided with photographs.

A genus Castanopsides Yasunaga (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae: Mirinae) is reviewed from the Korean Peninsula. Castanopsides falkovitshi (Kerzhner 1979) is reported for the first time. Descriptions of male genitalia, diagnoses, and a key to the Korean Castanopsides are provided with illustrations and photographs.

Two new records of the subfamily Orthotylinae (Heteroptera: Miridae: Orthotylinae), Zanchius tarasovi Kerzhner, 1988 and Orthotylus bilineatus (Fallén, 1807), are reported for the first time to the Korean fauna. The genus Zanchius is also first recorded from the Korean Peninsula. Redescriptions of genitalia, diagnoses of each species and genus, and biological notes are presented with the photographs and illustrations

1977년 1월 1일부터 1982년 12월 31일까지 만 6년간 고려병원 신경정신과에 입원했었던 중년 여성(30~65세)에 대한 역학 조사 및 임상적 고찰을 하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 중년 입원 환자의 남녀비는 1:1.7이었다. 2. 중년 여성 입원 환자는 매년 증가 추세이나 남성은 별 변화가 없었다. 3. 가장 많은 입원 연령군은 남녀 공히 30대였다. 4. 질병군별로는 여성에서 신체형 장애가 가장 많았고(21.6%) 남성에 비해 신체화 경향도 높았다. 5. 여성에서 신경증군이 정신증군보다 많은데 비해 남성은 정신증군이 더 많았다. 6. 평균 재원일 수는 중년 여성이 20.12일 중년 남성은 23.21일이었다. 7. 여성의 경우엔 정서적 위기를 더 쉽게 맞이하고 위기를 넘기면 곧바로 퇴원하는 경향이 많았다. 8. 정신 증상은 불안(21.8%), 안절부절(11.4%), 자살에 대한 상념(10.0%)순으로 많았고, 신체 증상은 두통(23.0%) , 심계항진(21.6%), 불면(13.7%)순으로 많았다. 9. 유발 요인은 배우자와의 갈등(37.4%), 경제적인 문제(13.3%), 고부간의 갈등(11.9%)순으로 많았다. A clinical aspects of middle aged women(30-55 years old), who were admitted at Korea General Hospital from January 1st 1977 to December 31th 1982 were studied. The results of the study was as follows; 1. Total women patient outnumbers male by ratio of 1.7:1. 2. There has been steady increment of women patient annually, whereas no signicant change was seen in men. 3. The most frequent age distribution was the fourth decade in both sexes. 4. As to diagnostic aspect, somatoform disorder was most frequently found(21.6%) in women, which indicates somatization tendency was higher in women than men. 5. Cases of neuroses were more than psychoses in women, whereas psychoses were more in men. 6. The mean duration of hospitlization were 20.12 days for women and 23.21 for men. 7. Women cases admitted themselves more easily as they met emotional crisis, thus discharged sooner as crisis was over. 8. The frequent mental symotoms complained were anxiety(21.8%) irritabiilty(11.4%) and suicidal ideation(10.0%). In the somatic symptoms, headache(23.0%) , palpitation(21.6%) and insomnia(13.7%) were noted in descending order. 9. The frequent precipitating factors were identified as follows : trouble with spouse(37.4%), financial problems(13.3%), conflict with a mother- in-law and a daughter-in-law(11.9%).

Since the velocity is dependent on the fiber orientation in anisotropic composites, the application of traditional acoustic emission (AE) source location techniques based on the constant velocity to composite structures has been practically impossible. The anisotropy makes the source location procedure complicated and deteriorates the accuracy of the location. In this study, we have divided the region of interest(ROI) into a set of finite elements, taken each element as a virtual source, and calculated the arrival time differences between sensors by using the velocities at every degree from 0 to 90. The calculated and the experimentally measured values of the arrival time difference are then compared to minimize the location error. The results from two different materials, namely AA6061-T6 and CFRP(uni-directional, UD, [0]_32) laminate confirmed the practical usefulness of the proposed method.
