Changes occurred in the patterns of utilization of emergency medical services during the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) outbreak. The purpose of this study was to analyze the patterns of adult and pediatric patients who visited the emergency department (ED) during the outbreak. This retrospective study was conducted by analyzing changes in the patterns of visits among adult and pediatric patients in the ED at one tertiary teaching hospital in Korea. The study was performed from June 1, 2013 to July 31, 2015. The MERS outbreak period was from June 1 to July 31, 2015, and we compared that period to the same periods in 2013 and 2014. We compared and analyzed the patients' characteristics, emergency severity index (ESI) level at the visit, cause of visit, diagnosis, final dispositions, injury/non-injury, length of stay at the ED (EDLOS), and hospitalization rate. A total of 9,107 patients visited the ED during this period. Of these patients, 2,572 (28.2%) were pediatric patients and 6,535 (71.8%) were adult patients. The most common cause of an ED visit was fever (adult patients: 21.6%, pediatric patients: 56.2%). The proportion of non-urgent visits involving an ESI level of 4 or 5 and the EDLOS decreased significantly in pediatric and adult patients in comparison to that during the past two years. This change was significant in pediatric patients. Among adult patients, the rate of injury decreased, whereas it increased among pediatric patients. During the MERS outbreak period, pediatric ED visits due to non-urgent cases decreased significantly and there were more pronounced differences in ED utilization patterns in pediatric patients than in adult patients.

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is currently attracting significant global attention. UAM can be broadly categorized into wingless Multi-Copter types and winged configurations such as Lift-Cruise, Tilt-Rotor, and Lift-Tilt types. In winged UAM, aerodynamic interactions between the rotor wake and the aircraft's wings occur during forward flight. These aerodynamic interactions affect the rotor thrust and the vehicle stability. Therefore, this study conducted unsteady flow analysis using the Sliding Mesh approach to investigate the aerodynamic interference between the wing and rotor. The analysis focused on the XV-15, a Tilt-Rotor type of Winged UAM, using the commercial CFD software STAR-CCM+ to perform flow simulations and analysis of both a Single Rotor and a Wing-Rotor system at various Collective Pitch angles. The results revealed changes in various aerodynamic forces on both the Wing-Rotor and Single Rotor as the Collective Pitch increased, with noticeable effects on the wake structure due to the strength of the rotor tip vortex.
주택소유와 자산기반 투표 : 17대 ~ 19대 대통령 선거 분석

What effects has the home-ownership on voter’s choice? This paper aims to empirically analyze the effect of home-ownership on vote for conservative candidates and to investigate on the patrimonial voting in 2007, 2012 and 2017 presidential elections in South Korea. While the analyses for regional aggregate voting data shows that the precincts with more homo-owners or apartment residents have more probability for voting for conservative candidates, the analyses based on micro-voting data do not support the statistically significant relationship between home-ownership and voting behavior. Using the concept of ‘the funnel of causality’, this paper examines what direct and indirect effects the home-ownership has on voting behavior. This paper find that the home-ownership has both direct and indirect effects on voting behavior in 2007 presidential elections, but only indirect effects by being mediated through party identification and subjective political ideology in 2012 and 2017 presidential elections. These findings imply that the effect of patrimonial voting relies on whether electoral issues or parties’ electoral strategies are deeply interwoven with housing issues related with tax policy, financial policy or housing market regulations. The result shows that home-ownership is likely to become one of the important political cleavages in electoral politics and the patrimonial voting takes the considerable position in economic voting in South Korea. 주택소유는 투표결정에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 이 논문은 한국의 최근 세 번의 대선(2007년, 2012년, 2017년)에서의 자산기반 투표의 흐름을 살펴보는 것이 목적이다. 이를 위해 17대부터 19대대선 과정에서 수행된 여론조사를 통해 자산을 측정하는 핵심변수인 주택소유(home-ownership)가한국의 선거에서 어떠한 영향을 미쳐왔는지를 경험적으로 분석한다. 손낙구(2010)는 선거구별 득표율 분석을 통해 자가소유와 아파트 거주자가 많은 지역일수록 보수후보를 지지할 확률이 높아진다고 주장하지만, 미시적인 데이터를 이용한 연구들은 주택소유 여부와 투표행위와의 관련성을 뒷받침하지 않는다. 이에 이 논문은 ‘인과관계의 논리적 통로(the funnel of causality)’ 개념을 활용하여주택소유가 투표행위에 미치는 영향을 직접효과와 간접효과로 구분해서 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 부동산이 중요 쟁점 중 하나였던 17대 대선에서는 주택소유 여부가 보수후보 투표에 직접적으로 영향을미쳤을 뿐만 아니라 지지정당과 주관적 이념성향에 매개되어 간접적으로도 영향을 미쳤던 것으로나타났다. 그러나 이념적인 대립이 극심했던 18대 대선과 대통령 탄핵으로 조기에 치러졌던 19대대선에서 주택소유 여부는 지지정당과 주관적 이념성향에 매개되어 간접적으로만 투표에 영향을 미쳤다. 이 논문의 분석 결과는 자산 변수의 직접효과와 간접효과를 고려할 경우 지난 세 번의 대선에서 주택소유 여부가 투표행위에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다는 사실을 보여준다. 자산 변수는 중요한정치균열로서 언제든지 한국 선거정치에서 중요 변수로 부각될 수 있다는 것을 보여주었다는 점에서 이 논문의 함의를 찾을 수 있다.
무바늘 분사식 주입기 오사용에 의한 양안 맥락망막 손상 1예

Purpose: To report a case of bilateral chorioretinal injury by needleless jet injector misuse. Case summary: In a dermatology department, the patient was diagnosed as having total alopecia and was scheduled to be injected on her eyelash by needleless jet injector for treatment but inexpert doctor injected on the eyelid, not eyelash, by mistake. She then suddenly complained of blurred vision and a floater just after that procedure and was referred to the ophthalmology department. Bilateral vitreous hemorrhage and preretinal hemorrhage were seen during indirect ophthalmoscopic examination and bilateral prophylactic argon laser photocoagulation was done around the suspicious tear site. Then bilateral vitreous hemorrhage and preretinal hemorrhage were absorbed and we found a partial retinal rupture lesion and choroidal rupture lesion in the right eye and a retinal injury lesion in the lefteye. Therefore we observed the lesions of both eyes continuously without further treatment. Her clinical symptoms improved. Conclusions: Needleless jet injector has many advantages, especially less pain and injury than a normal needle injector and is usually used in clinic as preoperative local anesthesia and steroid injection in many medical fields. In this case, the needleless injector was accidentally misused inducing both direct and indirect choroidal rupture and retinal injury. In general, while a needleless jet injector is used in ophthalmology department, we have to use it with the greatest care. 목적: 본원 피부과에서 무바늘 분사식 주입기 사용 시의 오사용에 의하여 발생한 맥락막 및 망막손상 1예를 경험하였기에 보고하고자 한다. 증례요약: 피부과에서 전체 탈모증으로 양쪽 눈썹부위에 탈모증 치료를 위하여 무바늘 분사식 주입기를 이용하여 스테로이드 주입술을 받을 계획이었으나 시술자의 미숙함으로 눈썹부위가 아닌 안검위쪽에 주입을 한 후 양안의 시야흐림과 날파리증을 호소하여 시행한 산동안저검사상 양안의 유리체출혈 및 망막앞출혈소견이 보여 예방적으로 아르곤레이저광응고술을 시행하였고 이후 출혈이 흡수되면서 좌안의 망막손상과 우안의 맥락막파열과 부분적인 망막파열소견이 관찰되어 지속적으로 외래경과 관찰해오고 있는 중으로 현재 전반 적인 증상은 호전되었다. 결론: 무바늘 분사식 주입기는 일반적인 바늘주사기에 비해 환자에게 상처와 공포감을 덜 주어 임상적으로 여러 분야에서 수술 전 국소마취제 투여나 약제의 간편한 주입을 위하여 많이 사용되고 있으나 본 증례는 시술자의 미숙함에 의하여 눈썹부위가 아닌 안검위쪽 으로 주입한 이후 직접적이거나 간접적인 손상에 의하여 맥락막 및 망막파열이 초래된 경우로 무바늘 분사식 주입기의 사용 시 좀 더 세심한 사용과 주의가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
PPE/Nylon 66 Blends with High Mechanical Toughness and Flame Retardancy

Poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether) (PPE)/Nylon 66 blends have been considered as the potential heat resistant engineering plastics with high mechanical toughness and flame retardancy, suitable for high temperature applications. However, incompatibility between PPE and Nylon 66 and poor thermal stability of Nylon 66 degrade mechanical toughness and flame retardancy. In this work, for the first time, the PPE/Nylon 66 blends with high mechanical toughness and flame retardancy simultaneously have been prepared through newly synthesized compatibilizer of PPE grafted with fumaric acid (PPE-g-FA) and environmental-friendly non-halogen organic phosphinate flame retardant. The PPE/Nylon 66 blend achieved not only V0 grade flame retardancy with the help of improved fire resistance through the solid phase reaction of non-halogenic flame retardant, but also large impact strength larger than 10 kJ/m2 due to the strong compatibility of PPE-g-FA.
