Big-scale increase of police officers has been pursued due to lack of police officers to cope with increasing demands of public orders including violent crimes or 4 major crimes in Korea. In addition, considerable improvement has been achieved in Korean Police Officer Recruitment Test System for reasonable evaluations including balanced evaluation of written test and physical strength examination, open examination of written test, introduction of PMAT(PoliceMan Aptitude Test), resulting in construction of multi-dimensional evaluation system. However, there still remains problems and limitation in written test including frequent change of test subjects, fragmentary feature of contents and forms of questions. In light of this, this study aims to examine the feature of written test for recruitment of police officers in USA, to identify meaningful suggestions, and further to explore directions for supplementation of written tests in Korea, which has failed to get out of its red-tape framework. For this purpose, this study identified process of police officer recruitment test system of USA focusing on written test, explored the form, type and evaluation items of written test, and presented suggestions for development of specialized measurement tools based on job analysis, balance of general education and aptitude evaluation, consistent written test system, and reinforced connection of recruitment process, education and training.
