        미국치과위생사의 전문직화에 대한 고찰

        In 2013, dental hygienist is in its 100th year. As Dr. Fones opened two year dental hygiene training program at Bridgeport Junior College in 1913. ``Dental Hygienist``, the profession that specializes in oral disease prevention and health science, was first used. Since ``Dental Hygienist`` was first introduced in the States, looking back through the America``s development of dental hygienist would be the basis of checking development process of the international dental hygiene system and comparing the system of each country. This study focused on the contemplation of how America``s dental hygienist became professional through ``development of dental hygienist``, ``development of dental hygiene education system``, ``development of dental hygienist`s license and related qualification system``, ``Dental hygienist laws and ethics``, and ``dental hygienists`` role and scope``. America``s dental hygienist has requirements to become professional and also dental hygienist is socially recognized as professional. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the process of American dental hygienist professionalization. Thus, references and literature were gathered and analyzed.

        노인장기요양보험제도에 관한 치과종사자의 인식도 연구

        This study grasped recognition on a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly targeting dental professionals who are working at dental hospitals and clinics where are located in Daejeon Metropolitan City. It developed and utilized materials available for educating the care staff in a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly and the dental professionals who participate in the oral hygiene service. It carried out the effective duty performance for the elderly in a situation of long-term care protection. Thus, the purpose of this study was to contribute to the early settlement in a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly. The following conclusions were obtained as a result of having carried out self-administered questionnaire research targeting 238 people from August 1 to August 30 in 2008. 1. In the general characteristics of the research subject, the present working place was indicated to be 22.7% for dental hospital, 71.8% for dental clinic, and 5.5% for others. As for the main duty field, the medical treatment & cooperative duty was indicated to be the highest with 61.8%, and was statistically significant(p=0.000). 2. The necessity for a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly was indicated to be 77.7% for `necessary` and 1.7% for `unnecessary,` and was statistically significant(p=0.016). 3. In the item of dividing the service of long-term care insurance for the elderly, the dental hygienists showed higher recognition than non-dental hygienists, and indicated significant difference(p=0.010). 4. As for recognition on a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly in dental professionals who responded as saying of `knowing name and contents` about a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly, the recognition level was high in recognition of subjects` age(p=0.000), division in services(p=0.012), contents in at-home care service(p=0.000), execution in oral-hygiene service(p=0.004), procedure of using the long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.016), item of judging grade of long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.013), medical charge by service according to judging grade of long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.015), burden of cost for a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.011), qualification of care staff(p=0.002), and contents of oral-hygiene service(p=0.027), and showed significant difference. 5. The service of long-term care insurance for the elderly and the oral-hygiene service indicated the statistically significant correlation. Accordingly, all of dental professionals need to make a desperate effort to improve dental professionals` knowledge on a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly enough to be required a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly. The more systematic and standardized professional education and materials are thought to be needed to be developed aiming at the success in oral-hygiene service within a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly, by strengthening professionalism in dentists and dental hygienists.

        치위생(학)과 학생의 전공만족도와 전문직관 연구

        본 연구는 치위생교육을 통해 형성된 치위생(학)과 학생의 전공만족도와 전문직관 정도를 파악하고 상관관계를 분석하여 치위생전문직관 형성교육에 필요한 자료를 제공하기 위해 조사하여 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 치위생(학)과 학생의 전공만족도는 인식만족이 가장 높았으며, 교과만족이 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 2. 전공만족도는 3.51점으로 나타났으며, 성적이 높은 학생일수록, 종합병원 및 대학병원에 취업을 원하는 학생일수록 전공만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다(p<0.01, p<0.05). 3. 치위생(학)과 학생의 전문직관은 치위생의 독자성이 가장 높았으며, 사회적 인식이 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 4. 전문직관은 3.48점으로 나타났으며, 성적이 높은 학생일수록 전문직관이 높은 것으로 나타났다(p<0.05). 5. 전공만족도와 전문직관의 관계는 전공만족도가 높을수록 전문직관이 높은 것으로 나타났다(p<0.001). 결론적으로 치위생(학)과 학생들의 긍정적인 전문직관의 확립을 위해 전공만족도를 높일 수 있도록 학생들의 학업성취도 향상과 졸업 후 취업에 대한 비젼을 제시할 수 있는 다양한 노력이 필요하다고 사료된다. The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfaction of dental hygiene students receiving dental hygiene education with their major, their view of profession and the correlation between their satisfaction with major and view of profession in an attempt to provide some information on how to teach students to accept the occupation of dental hygienist as a profession. 1. As for satisfaction with major, the dental hygiene students were most satisfied with awareness of dental hygienist, and they were least satisfied with courses. 2. The major satisfaction score was 3.51. The students whose academic standing was higher and who wanted to work in a general hospital or university hospital expressed more satisfaction with their major(p<0.01, p<0.05). 3. Concerning view of profession, they placed the most significance on the independence of dental hygiene, and put the least value on social awareness. 4. The view of profession score was 3.48. The students whose academic standing was higher regarded the job of dental hygienist as a profession(p<0.05). 5. As to the relationship between satisfaction with major and view of profession, those who were more satisfied with their major gave more weight to the job of dental hygienist as a profession(p<0.001).

        예방진료에 대한 일부 치과병원 의료진의 인식 및 요구도 파악을 위한 질적 연구

        Objectives: This study aims to understand the perceptions regarding preventive dental services among dental professionals. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with three groups of dental professionals―dentists, dental hygienists, and dental hygienists that specialized in preventive service―who were selected using a convenience sampling method. Results: First, there was limited awareness among dentists regarding the need for preventive care, because of the treatment-oriented philosophy and scarcity of preventive care success models. Second, dental hygienists commented that there was a lack of the person in charge and systematic process for preventive services. It would not help when they decided to change working place even though they had high anxiety working for preventive care. However, both these professionals agreed that preventive treatment is important as the core of care and that it was important to develop various improvement methods to promote preventive services. Conclusions: To activate preventive services in dental clinics, it is essential to improve the operating system and encourage dental professionals to realize the importance of preventive services.

      • 치과건강보험 청구전문인력자격제 도입에 대한 연구

        The purpose of this study is capable of dental insurance claims for the views of experts investigating the qualifications, curriculum development, dental insurance plan to provide basic information as is necessary. A total of 600 dental clinics in South Korea, including in the Seoul and Gyunggi areas, which provide their clients with or without public dental insurance claim services were randomly screened and surveyed door-to-door using a questionnaire between April 20 and June 20, 2010. Of the 600 clinics, 511(85.1%) were finally selected for this study to exclude from the analysis the unreliable data from the other 89 clinics First, regarding the qualifications of the public dental insurance claim professionals, 47.6% of them agreed to the requirement for a minimum of three years of clinical experience for efficient insurance claims, and 40.4%, to a five-year clinical experience. Second, the older the subjects were, the more they desired the introduction of the public dental insurance claim professionals system. Both dental hygienists and dentists showed a high level of agreement to the system, with a statistically significant difference(p<0.05). Third, regarding the educational requirement for the system, 60.4% of the subjects who had 11 years’ or longer clinical experience, 58.8% of the subjects with five years’ or shorter experience, and 56.1% of the subjects with six to 10 years of experience agreed, with a statistically significant difference (p<0.05), to the need for professional education. Fourth, in the case of general claims, the subjects were highly positive about the introduction of the system, for which they showed a statistically significant difference(p<0.05). With the introduction of the system, the time and space needed for the administrative procedures for the individual claims may be reduced. Considering the increasing numbers of disputes and criminal suits on individual claims processed by health care providers, public dental insurance claim manpower may need to be hired for the administrative efficiency of dental clinics, and to reduce the workload of dental hygienists and other professionals.

        치위생과 학생의 치과위생사 이미지, 전문직자아개념이 진로탐색행동에 미치는 영향

        Objectives: To investigate the effect of image and self-perception in their profession on career exploration behavior among dental hygiene students. Methods: The subject's image of dental hygiene, self-perception of the profession, and career exploration behavior were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. The final data of 250 people were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The image of dental hygiene and self-perception of the profession were positively correlated with the quantity of career exploration. The variables influencing dental hygiene students' career exploration behavior were self-perception of the profession. Conclusions: Since the variables affecting the career exploration behavior of students in the Department of Dental Hygiene appeared as a professional self-perception, measures should be prepared to enhance the professional self-percentpion.

        A Review of Mercury Exposure and Health of Dental Personnel

        Considerable effort has been made to address the issue of occupational health and environmental exposure to mercury. This review reports on the current literature of mercury exposure and health impacts on dental personnel. Citations were searched using four comprehensive electronic databases for articles published between 2002 and 2015. All original articles that evaluated an association between the use of dental amalgam and occupational mercury exposure in dental personnel were included. Fifteen publications from nine different countries met the selection criteria. The design and quality of the studies showed significant variation, particularly in the choice of biomarkers as an indicator of mercury exposure. In several countries, dental personnel had higher mercury levels in biological fluids and tissues than in control groups; some work practices increased mercury exposure but the exposure levels remained below recommended guidelines. Dental personnel reported more health conditions, often involving the central nervous system, than the control groups. Clinical symptoms reported by dental professionals may be associated with low-level, long-term exposure to occupational mercury, but may also be due to the effects of aging, occupational overuse, and stress. It is important that dental personnel, researchers, and educators continue to encourage and monitor good work practices by dental professionals.

        학제에 따른 일부 치위생(학)과 학생의 치과위생사 전문직업성에 대한 자기인식 평가

        본 연구는 일부 치위생(학)과 학생을 대상으로 하여 치과위생사 전문직업성의 자기평가에 초점을 맞추고, 치위생(학)과 학생이 인식하는 치과위생사 전문직업성 인식수준을 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 치위생(학)과 학생의 치과위생사 전문직업성에 대한 자기평가 수준은 지식영역 3.02, 기술영역 3.16, 태도영역 3.59로 나타났다. 3, 4년제 학제에 따른 치과위생사 전문직업성 인식수준은 전문적 지식영역에서 3년제는 3.07, 4년제는 2.97로 나타나 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.01). 2. 학년에 따른 치과위생사의 전문직업성에 대한 지식, 기술, 태도영역에서의 인식수준은 지식영역에서 1학년은 2.88, 2학년은 3.02, 3학년은 3.10, 4학년은 3.35로 학년이 올라갈수록 높아지는 경향을 보였으며, 이는 통계적으로 유의하였다(p<0.001). 또한 태도영역에서 1학년은 3.63, 2학년은 3.66, 3학년은 3.50, 4학년은 3.50으로 나타나 통계적으로도 유의하였고(p=0.02), 태도영역에서 학생의 자기평가 인식수준이 가장 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 이와 같은 연구결과 전반적으로 치과위생사 전문직업성 지식영역의 인식수준이 기술 및 태도영역보다 낮은 것으로 나타났고, 특히 치위생학에 대한 지식이 가장 낮은 것으로 조사되었다. 이에 일부 치위생(학)과 학생의 치과위생사 전문직업성의 인식수준은 만족스럽지 않다고 판단할 수 있으며, 치과위생사 전문직업성 교육에 대한 개선이 요구됨을 시사한다. 또한 교수자는 학생의 전문직업성 수준에 대해 지속적인 평가를 할 수 있어야 하며, 치과위생사 전문직업성 수준을 향상시키기 위한 학습모형의 개발을 통해 교육과정 개선을 모색해야 할 필요성 있겠다. This study focused on dental hygiene students" self-assessment and on dental hygienist professionalism. Data regarding students" self-perception on dental hygienist professionalism were collected from dental hygiene students currently enrolled in associate degree or bachelor"s degree programs and then analyzed. The results were as follows: The overall self-assessment score of the dental hygiene students participated in the study were 3.02 in terms of knowledge, 3.16 in terms of professional skills, and 3.59 in terms of attitude. The perceived professional knowledge levels among students in different degree programs showed statistically significant difference as the values were 3.07 and 2.97 in associate degree students and bachelor"s degree students, respectively(p=0.01). Among the three areas, students perceived higher knowledge levels as their academic years advanced from freshman year to senior year, and this difference was statistically significant(p<0.001). In terms of students" attitudes, 1st to 4th year students demonstrated overall attitude levels of 3.63, 3.66, 3.50 and 3.50, respectively(p=0.02). These results indicate that dental hygiene students tend to have less than satisfactory perception level of dental hygiene professionalism, and this in turn demonstrates urgent needs for educational improvements and other approaches required for increasing students" confidence in terms of professional knowledge and skills.

        직무만족 및 전문직업성과 이직의도와의 관계 분석

        본 연구는 치과위생사의 직무만족 및 전문직업성과 이직의도를 파악하여 치과에서의 직무만족을 높이고, 이직의도를 낮추어 전문직업인으로서의 소속감, 자신감, 올바른 가치관의 확립 등을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 일반적 특성에 따른 직무만족은 수입에서 가장 높게 나타났고, 전문직업성은 학력, 수입에서 높게 나타났으며, 이직의도는 주거상태에서 하숙이 가장 높게 나타났다. 근무 환경에 따른 직무만족은 임상경력이 3년 미만일수록, 치과 의료기관의 형태가 병원급일수록, 직위가 책임급 치과위생사일수록 높게 나타났고, 전문직업성은 직위가 책임급 치과위생사일수록 높게 나타났으며, 이직의도는 주중 근무 형태가 주중 6일 근무에서 높게 나타났다. 치과위생사의 직무만족과 전문직업성은 정적 상관관계를 나타내었고, 전문직업성과 이직의도는 부적 상관관계를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 치과위생사의 전문화 추세가 강조되고 그에 따른 역할의 확대가 증가하고 있는 가운데, 전문직업인으로서의 의식 고취 및 함양을 위해 그에 맞는 현실적인 방안을 찾는 것과 치과 의료기관 내에서 효과적인 방법의 적용은 매우 중요할 것으로 사료된다. The purpose of this study was to determine dental hygienists" job satisfaction, professionalism and turnover intention, improve their job satisfaction in dental clinics, reduce turnover intention, and provide basic data that could help them get a sense of belonging, self-confidence, and a good sense of values as professionals. As for the general characteristics, job satisfaction was most strongly correlated with income; professionalism was strongly correlated with education and income; and turnover intention was strongly correlated with boarding for residence status. As for the working conditions, job satisfaction was higher with less than three years of clinical career, the hospital level for dental care institution status, and dental hygienists in charge for position; professionalism was higher with dental hygienists in charge for position; and turnover intention was higher with the six-day work week system. For dental hygienists, job satisfaction was positively correlated with professionalism, which was negatively correlated with turnover intention. As emphasis is placed on the tendency of dental hygienists to be professionals and their roles expand gradually, it will be very important to develop practical plans for inspiring and cultivating a professional sense and to apply effective methods within dental care institutions.
