        21세기 국어의미론 연구의 방향과 과제

        This paper firstly aims to review of the Korean Semantics Research for the last 5 years. It includes Ph. D. dissertations, books, Master`s theses and journal papers. On the basis of this review, then, it shows the general tendency and problem of current Korean Semantics research. The review would include Lexical Semantics, Sentential Semantics, Cognitive Semantics, and Pragmatic Semantics. The total number of books and papers was 276 and they could be divided as follows. ㆍLexical Semantics 90 ㆍMorphological Semantics 20 ㆍSentential Semantics 27 ㆍCognitive Semantics 17 ㆍPragmatic Semantics (including Discourse Semantics) 68 ㆍLogical Semantics 8 ㆍSemantics General 36 In the above statistics, Lexical Semantics which includes Korean Lexical Field Theory takes the first place in quantity. The next place goes to Pragmatic Semantics which includes Discourse Semantics. The above studies show that the quantity and quality of Semantics research has increased recently. Especially, the increasing number of Master`s theses in Semantics discipline seems to promise a bright future for Semantics study in Korea. Unfortunately, however, Logical Semantics, Sentential Semantics, and Cognitive Semantics researches are more neglected in comparison with Lexical Semantics. Since the meaning of an utterance must be interpreted and understood in terms of a sentence(even a discourse or text) as a whole not by word by word, Sentential Semantics including Logical Semantics should be extended and deepened. Since the use and interpretation of speech is mostly based on the speakers` cognition, Cognitive Semantics should also be strengthened not only in quantity but also in quality.

        시뮬레이션 모형에 의한 한국어 보조동사의 의미 해석 과정 연구

        This study is aimed to develop a model which is able to explain the process of decoding Korean dependant verbs. Korean dependent verb has been a notoriously intriguing assignment for linguists, because it is characterized by fuzziness of meaning and grammatical category. Generative grammarians have assumed that dependent verb is a pure grammatical category which functions in autonomic way without meaning. But, from the view of Cognitive Linguistics this idea is seriously problematic. The foundation of Cognitive Grammar is that language is a symbolic structure which consists in the linkage of a semantic and a phonological structure. Simulation Semantics which is founded on the cognitive-neuroscience and experiential method also argues that there are no category without meaning. The irony is that despite the nature of generative grammar, many linguists have focused on the meaning of Korean dependent verbs. Consequently, there is seemingly no area of the subject that needs to be explained further besides some arguments over the membership problem of the category. But, that is not an essential matter but only a by-product of authentic analysis. In this study authenticity of analysis is supported by the psychological reality of Simulation Semantics, and the focus is shifted from the resultant meaning to the process of meaning interpretation. Conclusively, the Korean dependent verbs are adequately illustrated in detail by our simulation model, and this demonstrates the meaningfulness of Korean dependent verbs on the other hand.

        한국어 의미 연구와 의미 이론

        본고는 한국어의 의미 현상을 다룬 연구들의 흐름을 의미 이론적 측면에서 살펴본다. 구조의미론, 형식의미론, 인지의미론이 한국어 의미연구에 기여해 온 주요 의미 이론인데, 이들은 각각 1960년대, 1970년대 중반, 1980년대에 한국어 의미 연구에 도입되어 지금까지 큰 영향을 끼치고 있다. 구조의미론은 구조주의 언어학의 일환으로 전개되어 이전의 통시적 의미 연구보다 공시적 의미 연구를 우선시하였으며, 주로 어휘의미론에 기여한 바가 크다. 형식의미론과 인지의미론은 자연언어의 의미 분야에 대한 본격적인 의미 이론으로서, 각자의 고유한 의미관을 가지고 의미의 순환성을 극복하고자 한다. 이 두 이론은 각각 객관주의와 체험주의라는 상반되는 의미관들을 대변하면서, 한국어 의미 연구에 있어서 서로 독립적으로 혹은 배타적으로 큰 영향을 끼쳐 오고 있다. 보다 발전적인 한국어 의미 연구를 위해, 이 두 이론의 강점들이 함께 수용되는 통합적인 의미 이론의 출현이 요구된다. This paper discusses studies on Korean semantics in terms of semantic theories. The major theories which have made a great influence on Korean semantics are Structural Semantics, Formal Semantics, and Cognitive Semantics. The three theories were introduced into Korean semantic studies in the 1960s, the mid 1970s, and the 1980s respectively. Structural Semantics, which has concentrated on lexical semantics, is a part of Structural Linguistics and prefers synchronic semantic studies to diachronic ones. Formal Semantics and Cognitive Semantics, as full-fledged semantic theories, have their own theoretical stances, and try to overcome semantic circularity. They represent objectivism or experientialism respectively, and these notions are conflicting to each other. They have contributed to Korean semantic studies without interacting each other. An integrated semantic theory which has strengths of both Formal Semantics and Cognitive Semantics is needed for the future of Korean semantic studies.

        漢韓嘴/口類詞的語義認知分析

        Language is an important means of human perception and the accumulation of knowledge. Language and cognition are closely related. It is not established by the people through long social practice. Because different people have different growth environment, social background and cultural background, these different factors will affect people``s cognitive activities and cognitive ability. According to the theory of cognitive linguistics, human’s own physical experience is the basis of human cognition, the starting point of cognition, and also a tool of cognition. The experiences gained from bodies are spread to the cognitive world by way of metaphors and other cognitive schemas. That’s how concept system formed. Human cognitive activities are rooted in the physical experiences of human beings. In other words, people``s basic experience plays avery important role in the process of human cognition. The “嘴/口” related words are very important words in the human body vocabulary. People need to survive by the usage of “嘴/口” to complete the most basic “eating” and “speaking“ behavior, so the “嘴/口” related words in Chineseand Korean for semantic analysis have high research value and significance. Based on the results of previous studies, the dictionary meaning of words in Chinese and Korean “嘴/口” as well as the related theories of cognitive linguistics and contrastive linguistics, this article aims at analyzing the similarities and differences of the structure and function of the “嘴/口” related words in Chinese and Korean in the semantic expansion . Hoping this article can provide a reference for the Chinese and foreign language vocabulary teaching.

        주관적 인지저하 및 경도인지장애 노인의 단어연상과제 수행특성

        Associative ability can be used as the basic assessment data to clarify semantic knowledge preservation and processing speed by checking semantic networks. Especially due to the nature of Korean language, it takes a long time to build a semantic relation since there are a lot of semantically-overlapping words, particularly more in verbs and adjectives than nouns. And this difference depending on word classes could be a distinctive factor to identify cognitive function problems in the elderly. In this regard, this study aims to find out distinctive performance characteristics observed in the subject groups with subjective memory impairment and mild cognitive impairment, by designing multiple-choice word association tasks by word classes. As a result of the study, it was found that the performance of the mild cognitive impairment group had lower accuracy and reaction time than the normal group, and their error frequency by error types also showed significant difference. The subjective memory impairment group showed a significant increase in reaction time, compare to the normal group. To sum up, the quantity and/or quality of semantic knowledge processing could decline even at the stage of suffering from subjective cognitive problems, and particularly this problem could appear more obviously in the speed of semantic knowledge processing. Therefore, associative processing ability is anticipated to be used as a valuable data in future assessments to identify subjective and/or objective memory problems at an early stage. 연상(association)능력은 의미적 네트워크를 확인하여 의미지식의 보존 여부나 처리속도 등을 살펴볼 수 있는 전두엽 기능 평가 과제로 간주된다. 본 연구는 다중선택방식을 이용한 단어연상과제를통해 품사별 주관적 인지저하(Subjective cognitive decline, SCD) 및 경도인지장애(Mild cognitive impairment, MCI)군에게서 관찰되는 변별적 수행을 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 정반응 점수에서는 MCI군이정상군에 비해 유의하게 낮은 수행을 보였고, 반응시간에서는 정상군-SCD-MCI 순으로 유의하게 지연되는 양상을 보였다. 또한 품사에 따라 변별적으로 다른 수행력을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 주관적으로 인지문제를 호소하는 단계에서도 의미지식 처리의 양 또는 질이 저하될 수 있고 이문제는 의미지식을 처리하는 속도에서 더욱 분명하게 드러날 수 있음을 시사한다. 따라서 연상능력은주관적/객관적 기억문제를 조기에 선별해내기 위한 평가 장면에서 유용한 과제로 활용될 수 있으리라생각된다.

        ‘-겠-’의 문법화에 대한 인지의미론적 설명

This papers aims to explain developmental meaning of ‘-ghet-’ in Korea and to provide some evidence about cognitive device working at developmental meaning. One of the leading future tense in Korean language states that ‘-ghet-’ is originated from ‘-geh haeut-’(that is a causative expression). Derivation of ‘-geh haeut-’ has been a major issue since it does not only change its form, its definition has also changed from its derivation. This papers will explain what derives the change of its definition in Cognitive Semantic‘s point of view. Many previous study has been written based on ‘-ghe haeut-’ derivation (theory that says ‘-ghet-’ is originated from ‘-geh haeut-’ to ‘-heh yeut-’ to ‘-get-’), Those previous study states that the definition had changed as writter relates their axiom to meaning of a morpheme in order to explain its change. But, differenciate of this study from other studies is that this study is going to discuss that causative expression already includes future modality meaning, base on the ICM(idealized cognitive model) by G. Lakoff(1987). Also there are some example that modern language of ‘-ghet-’ includes definition of causative expression. This is one of the example when accepting request from other, have to say “al-ghet-seup-ni-da” that has future modality meaning instead of “ap-ni-da” that had present tense meaning, or “al-aht-seup-ni-da” that has past tense meaning in order to be polite. These examples support this papers' argument.

      • Modern Linguistics: Theoretical Aspects of the Development of Cognitive Semantics

        This article presents an examination of the major cognitive-semantic theories in linguistics (Langacker, Lakoff, Fillmore, Croft). The CST's foundations are discussed concerning the educational policy changes, which are necessary to improve the linguistic disciplines in the changing context of higher education, as well as the empowerment and development of the industry. It is relevant in the light of the linguistic specialists' quality training and the development of effective methods of language learning. Consideration of the theories content, tools, and methods of language teaching, which are an important component of quality teaching and the formation of a set of knowledge and skills of students of linguistic specialties, remains crucial. This study aims to establish the main theoretical positions and directions of cognitive-semantic theory in linguistics, determine the usefulness of teaching the basics of cognitive linguistics, the feasibility of using methods of cognitive-semantic nature in the learning process. During the research, the methods of linguistic description and observation, analysis, and synthesis were applied. The result of the study is to establish the need to study basic linguistic theories, as well as general theoretical precepts of cognitive linguistics, which remains one of the effective directions in the postmodern mainstream. It also clarifies the place of the main cognitive-semantic theories in the teaching linguistics' practice of the XXI century.

        인지 의미론의 연구 성과를 활용한 문법 교육 내용 개선 방안 연구

        This While, there are critical comments about the grammar education contents. This have reflected the results of linguistics in perspective of formalism and structuralism. Students turn one’s face away these grammar education contents in schools. For improvement of this situation, it is necessary to apply linguistics in perspective of pragmatics and functionalism. This study proposes the improvement of the grammar education contents using the study result of 'cognitive semantics'. Specially, we can understand the cognitive process and system operating in expressing process through cognitive semantics. So, this can reinforce the existing grammar education contents.

        인지적 범주화 과정으로서의 법적 추론

        본 연구의 목적은 인지의미론적 범주화의 관점에서 법적 추론을 이해하는 것이다. 법적 추론의 인지적 측면에서 가장 주목해야 할 부분은 범주화이다. 법적 추론의 인지적 측면을 연구해온 스티븐 L. 윈터(Steven L. Winter)는 법적 추론에서 범주화의 역할에 주목하였다. 법적 추론이란 성문규정으로 코드화된 범주들에 법적 사태가 포함 될 것인가를 판단하는 범주화 과정이다. 법적 추론에 관한 다양한 모형들은 법적 범주화의 과정에 관한 서로 다른 접근이라고 할 수 있다. 조지 레이코프(George Lakoff)의 인지의미론을 수용한 윈터의 설명을 따라 범주화의 관점에서 법적 추론을 재평가함으로써 다음과 같은 두 가지 통찰을 얻을 수 있으리라 기대된다. 첫째, 법규범이나 법적 추론에 반영된 이상적 인지모형에 대한 분석은 그 법규범과 법적 추론에 대한 설명을 제공할 뿐만 아니라 그것들에 대한 비판의 기준점도 제공할 수 있다. 둘째, 이상적 인지모형이 하나의 법적 사태에 대한 다양한 성격규정이 가능하게 하는 토대이기도 하면서 동시에 그러한 가능성에 일정한 제약을 가하는 역할을 한다. This paper aims to understand legal reasoning as categorizing processes from the view of Cognitive Semantics. Great attention should be given to categorization among cognitive dimensions of legal reasoning. Accepting George Lakoff's Cognitive Semantics, Steven L. Winter has paid great attention to the categorization in the cognitive dimensions of legal reasoning. Legal reasoning refers to decision making processes to subsume a certain legal state under its relative legal norms in which various categories are codified. Several models of legal reasoning can be considered as different approaches to legal categorizing processes. By re-understanding legal reasoning in terms of categorization as Winter does, we might gain two insights into legal reasoning: First, analysis of idealized cognitive models in legal norms and legal reasoning can provide critical viewpoints as well as descriptive explanations. Second, idealized cognitive models can not only lead various legal characterizations, but also impose some restrictions on them.
