TS-Fuzzy Logic Based Power Quality Improvement of DG-BESS Based Standalone System

Power quality in a standalone system is of major concern these days. To reduce power distribution fl uctuations, an energy storage device is necessary. With an adequate controller, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is the fi nest and most eff ective energy storage technology for reducing system fl uctuations. The proposed BESS controller uses the Takagi Sugeno-fuzzy logic control (TS-FLC) approach to improve the diesel generator (DG) sourced standalone system’s stability. This controller is designed for an inverter that connects BESS with various linear/non-linear loads. When unbalanced loads are connected, the controller is capable of compensating for the load's reactive power requirements. The same inverter can be used to transfer active power. The proposed system modeling with BESS is implemented and analyzed on the MATLAB Simulink. The dclink voltage is regulated by connecting BESS with bi-directional dc-dc converter. The system is stabilized by compensating the reactive power and the unbalance created due to diff erent kinds of loads (linear/non-linear) in the network. The voltage in the suggested BESS controller rapidly returns to its normal steady-state condition when subjected to a fault and is less vulnerable to uncertainty.
