In this study, we propose a new approach for MR(Magneti-rheological) Fluid. MR fluid is a type of smart material whose apparent viscosity and yield stress can be easily controlled by an external magnetic field without moving parts. A new deburring technology using MR effect under shear mode is proposed for pinion shaft employed in steering system. Unlike conventional pinion shafts, steering pinion shafts for automobiles equipped with new functions such as LKA(Lain Keeping Assist) and/or autonomous driving require machining due to their special shape, which results in burrs. The proposed mechanism removes burrs by using the MR effect that occurs between the rotating and vibrating shaft and the MR fluid filled in the container. Prototype apparatus using permanent magnets is fabricated, and basic tests on deburring are experimentally investigated and discussed.

In this study, design methodology is suggested to determine the design parameter of cam shape of shell part in cold forging process. The cam cold forging process has been investigated by using rigid plastic FE-simulation, (using the) In cold forging process orthogonal array in design of experiment(DOE). In order to evaluate the influence of variables, the relief, the land length and the land angle are considered as design parameter. In this study, the object functions are forming load damage and total displacement. After simulations, the optimal condition of design parameters can be found using ANOVA analysis.
