Automatic carrier phase delay synchronization of PGC demodulation algorithm in fiber-optic interferometric sensors

( Changbo Hou ),( Shuai Guo ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.7

Phase-generated carrier (PGC) demodulation algorithm is the main demodulation methods in Fiber-optic interferometric sensors (FOISs). The conventional PGC demodulation algorithms are influenced by the carrier phase delay between the interference signal and the carrier signal. In this paper, an automatic carrier phase delay synchronization (CPDS) algorithm based on orthogonal phase-locked technique is proposed. The proposed algorithm can calculate the carrier phase delay value. Then the carrier phase delay can be compensated by adjusting the initial phase of the fundamental carrier and the second-harmonic carrier. The simulation results demonstrate the influence of the carrier phase delay on the demodulation performance. PGC-Arctan demodulation system based on CPDS algorithm is implemented on SoC. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is able to obtain and eliminate the carrier phase delay. In comparison to the conventional demodulation algorithm, the signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SINAD) of the proposed algorithm increases 55.99dB.

Synchronization for IR-UWB System Using a Switching Phase Detector-Based Impulse Phase-Locked Loop

        Lin Zheng,Zhenghong Liu,Mei Wang 한국전자통신연구원 2012 ETRI Journal Vol.34 No.2

Conventional synchronization algorithms for impulse radio require high-speed sampling and a precise local clock. Here, a phase-locked loop (PLL) scheme is introduced to acquire and track periodical impulses. The proposed impulse PLL (iPLL) is analyzed under an ideal Gaussian noise channel and multipath environment. The timing synchronization can be recovered directly from the locked frequency and phase. To make full use of the high harmonics of the received impulses efficiently in synchronization, the switching phase detector is applied in iPLL. It is capable of obtaining higher loop gain without a rise in timing errors. In different environments, simulations verify our analysis and show about one-tenth of the root mean square errors of conventional impulse synchronizations. The developed iPLL prototype applied in a high-speed ultra-wideband transceiver shows its feasibility, low complexity, and high precision.

A Fast and Robust Grid Synchronization Algorithm of a Three-phase Converters under Unbalanced and Distorted Utility Voltages

        김광섭,현동석,김래영 대한전기학회 2017 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.12 No.3

In this paper, a robust and fast grid synchronization method of a three-phase power converter is proposed. The amplitude and phase information of grid voltages are essential for power converters to be properly connected into the utility. The phase-lock-loop in synchronous reference frame has been widely adopted for the three-phase converter system since it shows a satisfactory performance under balanced grid voltages. However, power converters often operate under abnormal grid conditions, i.e. unbalanced by grid faults and frequency variations, and thus a proper active and reactive power control cannot be guaranteed. The proposed method adopts a second order generalized integrator in synchronous reference frame to detect positive sequence components under unbalanced grid voltages. The proposed method has a fast and robust performance due to its higher gain and frequency adaptive capability. Simulation and experimental results show the verification of the proposed synchronization algorithm and the effectiveness to detect positive sequence voltage.

      • Dual-Stator Two-Phase Permanent Magnet Machines With Phase-Group Concentrated-Coil Windings for Torque Enhancement

        Zhao, Wenliang,Lipo, Thomas A.,Kwon, Byung-Il IEEE 2015 IEEE transactions on magnetics Vol.51 No.11

<P>This paper presents two types of novel dual-stator two-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) equipped with an advanced phase-group concentrated-coil winding and a spoke-type PM array for direct-drive applications. The key advantage of the proposed two-phase PMSMs is its superior flux-focusing effects, which greatly enhance the torque, benefiting from the whole machine configuration. To highlight the advantages of the proposed two-phase PMSMs, one three-phase PMSM and one two-phase PMSM with the conventional stator and winding configurations are adopted for comparison. All relevant machine characteristics, including the air-gap flux density, back electromotive force, and electromagnetic torque, are predicted by a 2-D finite-element method. Finally, one of the proposed dual-stator two-phase PMSMs is optimized to minimize cogging torque and torque ripples using the Kriging method and a genetic algorithm.</P>

      • Experimental Study on Synchronous Shifting for AMT without Synchronizer Based on Three-phase Induction Motor

        Yunxia LI,Zengcai WANG,Weili PENG,Zhou ZHENG 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Smart Home Vol.10 No.2

In order to reduce shifting jerks, synchronous shift is needed on transmission with gear ratios. How to achieve synchronous shift has been the difficulty of AMT (Automated Mechanical Transmission) without synchronizer, which is the main emphasis of shift schedule. In this paper, the experimental study on synchronous up-shifting and down-shifting is given by test-bed which consisted of three-phase induction motor and heavy-duty AMT without synchronizer. Based on shift model, the synchronous speed difference is put forward for the synchronous shift strategy. The synchronizing control strategy of up-shifting is proposed on the basis of the braking characteristics of TB (transmission brake). The synchronizing control strategy of down-shifting is given according to the characteristics of the three-phase induction motor. Under the conditions of various synchronous speed differences, the up-shifting experiments and down-shifting experiments are achieved. By comparisons, the best value of synchronous speed difference is discussed in terms of gear-position and working conditions. The results of shifting experiments show that the synchronous shifting strategies for AMT without synchronizer based on three-phase induction can decrease shifting jerks and improve shift qualities.

A Novel Single Phase Synchronous Reference Frame Phase-Locked Loop with a Constant Zero Orthogonal Component

Li, Ming,Wang, Yue,Fang, Xiong,Gao, Yuan,Wang, Zhaoan The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2014 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.14 No.6

A novel single phase Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) is proposed in this paper to accurately and rapidly estimate the instantaneous phase angle of a grid. A conjugate rotating vector pair is proposed and defined to synthesize the single phase signal in the stationary reference frame. With this concept, the proposed PLL innovatively sets one phase input of the PARK transformation to a constant zero. By means of a proper cancellation, a zero steady state phase angle estimation error can be achieved, even under magnitude and frequency variations. The proposed PLL structure is presented together with guidelines for parameters adjustment. The performance of the proposed PLL is verified by comprehensive experiments. Satisfactory phase angle estimation can be achieved within one input signal cycle, and the estimation error can be totally eliminated in four input cycles for the most severe conditions.

      • Asymptotic formation and orbital stability of phase-locked states for the Kuramoto model

        Choi, Y.P.,Ha, S.Y.,Jung, S.,Kim, Y. North-Holland 2012 Physica. D, Nonlinear phenomena Vol.241 No.7

We discuss the asymptotic formation and nonlinear orbital stability of phase-locked states arising from the ensemble of non-identical Kuramoto oscillators. We provide an explicit lower bound for a coupling strength on the formation of phase-locked states, which only depends on the diameters of natural frequencies and initial phase configurations. We show that, when the phases of non-identical oscillators are distributed over the half circle and the coupling strength is sufficiently large, the dynamics of Kuramoto oscillators exhibits two stages (transition and relaxation stages). In a transition stage, initial configurations shrink to configurations whose diameters are strictly less than π2 in a finite-time, and then the configurations tend to phase-locked states asymptotically. This improves previous results on the formation of phase-locked states by Chopra-Spong (2009) [26] and Ha-Ha-Kim (2010) [27] where their attention were focused only on the latter relaxation stage. We also show that the Kuramoto model is @?1-contractive in the sense that the @?1-distance along two smooth Kuramoto flows is less than or equal to that of initial configurations. In particular, when two initial configurations have the same averaged phases, the @?1-distance between them decays to zero exponentially fast. For the configurations with different phase averages, we use the method of average adjustment and translation-invariant of the Kuramoto model to show that one solution converges to the translation of the other solution exponentially fast. This establishes the orbital stability of the phase-locked states. Our stability analysis does not employ any standard linearization technique around the given phase-locked states, but instead, we use a robust @?1-metric functional as a Lyapunov functional. In the formation process of phase-locked states, we estimate the number of collisions between oscillators, and lower-upper bounds of the transversal phase differences.
