Potential outbreakable Nolidae: Taxonomy and ecology

Family Nolidae has not much been treated as noticeable pest. In other countries, there are some pest species like Garella musculana (Erschoff, 1874), Uraba lugens Walker, 1866, and Earias insulana (Boisduval, 1833), but those are not reported in Korea. Recently, the occurrence of a nolid species, Meganola major (Hampson, 1894) has been increasing, especially in Jeollanam-do Prov. This species is mainly distributed in Indian subregion and Southeast Asia, but also East Asia reported, but until now, there are no outbreak information. Neverthereless, recent outbreak might be lead by global warming, and their growth stage. This seems to be evidence of the potential outbreak risk of nolid moths, but unfortunately, their ecology is not mostly well-studied. In this discussion, we are focusing on the potential outbreak of nolid moths in East Asiatic and Oriental regions.

Scaeosopha속의 1종을 신종으로 기재, 발표한다. 이 속은 구북구지역에서 처음으로 기록된다. Scaeothyris Diakonoff은 Scaeosopha Meyrick의 synonym으로 정리한다. A new species, Scaeosopha sinevi sp. nov., is described from Korea. This genus is reported for the first time from the Palaearctic Region. The genus Scaeothyris Diakonoff, 1968 is newly synonymized with Scaeosopha Meyrick, 1914.

The genus Leluthia Cameron, 1887 is recorded for the first time from the Oriental region. Two new species, Leluthia (Euhecabolodes) areola Ranjith et Belokobylskij, sp. nov. and L.(E.) indica Belokobylskij et Ranjith, sp. nov. are described and illustrated from the Indian states Kerala and Goa, respectively. The new species are most similar to the Western Palaearctic Hecabolus hungaricus (Szépligeti, 1900), which is reinstated from its synonymy with Polystenus and transferred to the genus Leluthia Cameron (stat. resurr. and comb. nov.).

The enigmatic ophionine genus Skiapus Morley, 1917 of the family Ichneumonidae is discovered from Japan based on S. niger Sheng, 2006, which had been known from China. We also recognized following two speciesgroups of Skiapus for the first time: (1) the Afrotropical species-group, including only S. coalescens Morley, 1917, characterized by themandible twisted at 90°with a single apical tooth; and (2) the Eastern Palaearctic species- group, including S. baeki Lee, 2007 and S. niger, characterized by themandible twisted at 75° with two apical teeth. A key to the Japanese ophionine genera is also provided.

The Phytosciara genus group (Diptera, Sciaridae: Phytosciara Frey, Dolichosciara Tuomikoski, and Prosciara Frey) are studied in the Korean peninsula. Dolichosciara koreaensis Shin & Menzel sp. n. is described and illustrated as new to science. Additionally, four species are reported as new to Korea: Dolichosciara orcina (Tuomikoski, 1960), Dolichosciara semiferruginea (Menzel, 1995), Prosciara producta (Tuomikoski, 1960), and Prosciara ussuriensis (Antonova, 1977). Identification keys are given for the genera of the Phytosciara genus group and for the Korean species of the genera Dolichosciara Tuomikoski and Prosciara Frey. The COI barcode for the new species is studied.
