Effect of Power Grasping on Muscle Activity of Trunk during One Leg Stance

        공용수,황윤태 대한물리치료학회 2017 대한물리치료학회지 Vol.29 No.2

Purpose: This study investigated the effects of trunk muscle activity with power grasping during one leg stance. Methods: Twenty-eight subjects participated in this study. Subjects were divided into two groups, one that performed power grasping, and another that did not. An investigator measured the activities of a subject’s trunk muscle such as internal oblique (IO), external oblique (EO), erector spinae (ES), and gluteus medius (GM) while a subject was doing one leg stance. Results: An independent t-test was used to analyze trunk muscle activities with power grasping during one leg stance between the experimental group and the control group. Only the EO activity differed significantly between groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results indicate that one leg stance with power grasping affected trunk muscle activity. Therefore, this is a useful method for providing lumbar spine stability.

Comparison of Trunk Strategy to Maintain Balance during the One-Leg Stance on a Medio-Lateral Ramp and an Anterior- Posterior Ramp

        ( Sang-yeol Lee ),( Myoung-hee Lee ) 대한물리치료학회 2017 대한물리치료학회지 Vol.29 No.4

Purpose: This study examined two trunk strategies - medio-lateral ramp and anterior-posterior ram - and their effects on pelvis and trunk movements, providing basic material for safe ramp utilization. Methods: The present study included 20 asymptomatic males recruited from a local university. Participants were asked to stand with their feet shoulder-width apart. Their dorsal side faced the camera, and measurements were performed while standing in a neutral double stance, one leg stance, 15° of medial and lateral ramp, and 15° of anterior and posterior ramp. Participants were allowed to practice for 3 minutes, and each participant had a 30 seconds rest between the two ramp conditions. One-way repeated measures analysis of variance was used to determine the effects the ramp conditions on spinal alignment. In all analyses, p<0.05 was used to indicate statistical significance. Results: The trunk-inclination angle on the posterior ramp was significantly lower than that of the double stance position (p<0.05). The trunk imbalance angle was significantly higher on the medial ramp, than that on the double stance position (p<0.05). The pelvic position and pelvic torsion angles were significantly higher in the medial, lateral, and anterior ramp positions than that of the double stance position (p<0.05). The pelvic rotation angles on the medial, lateral, and anterior ramps were significantly lower than that of the double stance position (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that when people are exposed to the same form of ramp for an extended period, posture modifications may be triggered.

Effects of Tendon Vibration During One-Legged and Two-Legged Stance in Elderly Individuals

        Yu, Mi,Piao, Yong-Jun,Kim, Seong-Hyun,Kim, Dong-Wook,Kim, Nam-Gyun 한국정밀공학회 2010 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.11 No.6

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of vibration of the tibialis anterior and Achilles tendons during one-legged and two-legged stance in young and elderly individuals. Sway in the center of pressure (COP) and plantar pressure was observed in four vibration conditions, which included single vibration, combined vibration and non-vibration applied to the tibialis anterior and/or Achilles tendons of the supporting leg. For single vibration, whole-body tilts were directed backward and forward according to the location of the vibration. In combined vibration, very small amplitude body shifts were observed. Using combined vibration of the tibialis anterior and Achilles tendons, the decrease in the COP sway may improve the ability to balance during one-legged stance in elderly individuals. In particular, the decrease in COP sway may improve the ability to balance during one-legged stance by combined vibration in elderly subjects. These findings are important for the use of somatosensory information processing to regulate postural adjustments in the elderly.

Changes of One-Leg Standing Balance of Ipsilateral and Contralateral Lower-Limb Following Unilateral Isokinetic Exercise of Ankle Joint in Young Adults

        손성민 대한물리치료학회 2015 대한물리치료학회지 Vol.27 No.6

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a four week unilateral isokinetic exercise program applied to ankle on the one-leg stance balance performance of ipsilateral and contralateral lower-limbs. Methods: Subjects were randomly assigned to either a right ankle training program (n=12) or a control group (n=12). The training group received unilateral ankle isokinetic exercise of the dominant side for 4 weeks, whereas control group did not. Ipsilateral and contralateral one-leg balance were measured before and after intervention using the Biodex Balance System. Results: Improvements of stability scores, such as APSI, MLSI, and OSI, from pre-test to post-test were significantly different greater for the training group when the control. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest unilateral ankle strengthening exercise transfers benefit to the untrained limb by a cross-education effect, and that this type of exercise should be considered to improve one-leg standing balance of trained and untrained lower-limbs.
