This study evaluated the anti-adipogenic effectsand mechanisms underlying the action of Lactobacillusfermentum MG4231 and MG4244 strains on adipogenesisand lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Treatmentwith cell-free extracts (CFEs) from the two strainsreduced lipid accumulation and intracellular triglycerideproduction in 3T3-L1 adipocytes by more than 50%. Theinhibitory effects of L. fermentum on lipid accumulationwere mediated by the downregulation of FAS and aP2resulting from the inhibition of PPARc and C/EBPa geneexpression. Moreover, AMPK and HSL phosphorylationwas upregulated by CFE treatment. These results indicatedthat the anti-adipogenic and lipolysis activities of L. fermentumstrains were caused by increased AMPK and HSLphosphorylation. Both strains displayed high leucine arylamidaseand b-galactosidase enzymatic activity, withexcellent adhesion to epithelial cells. Therefore, we identifiedL. fermentum as potential new probiotics for theprevention of obesity.
유산균(Lactobacillus fermentum) 함유 미생물제제의 크리핑 벤트그래스 밀도개선 효과

Microbial fertilizer has been used to prompt turfgrass growth and quality and to prevent turfgrass diseases in turfgrass management of golf courses. This study was conducted to evaluate effects of microbial fertilizer containing Lactobacillus fermentum (MFcL) on changes of turfgrass quality and growth by investigating turf color index, chlorophyll index, clipping yield, and nutrient content in the turfgrass tissue. Treatments were designed as follows; non-fertilizer (NF), control fertilizer (CF), MFcL treatments [CF+1.0 g m-2 (MFL), CF+2.0 g m-2 (2MFL)], and only MFcL treatment (OMF; 1.0 g m-2 MFL). Chemical properties of soil by application of MFcL was unaffected. Turf color index, chlorophyll index, clipping yield and nutrient content and uptake of MFcL treatments were similar to CF. Furthermore, turfgrass shoot density of MFL was increased by 20% than that of CF, and that of OMF by 22% than NF. These results show that the application of microbial fertilizer containing L. fermentum increased turfgrass shoot density, which is not attributed to nutrient uptake in this study, but needs to be further investigated with other mechanisms such as biostimulant induction or phytohormone production. 골프장 잔디 관리에서 미생물제제는 잔디의 생육 및 품질을 개선하고, 병을 예방하기 위해 사용되어왔다. 본 연구는 유산균(Lactobacillus fermentum)을 함유하는 미생물제제의 처리에 따른 크리핑 벤트그래스의 생육과 품질에미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 처리구는 무처리구(NF), 대조구(CF), 미생물제제 처리구(MFcL: microbial fertilizer containing L. fermentum; MFL: CF+MFcL 1.0 g m-2; 2MFL: CF+ MFcL 2.0 g m-2) 및 미생물제제 단독 처리구(OMF; MFcL 1.0 g m2)로 설정하였다. 시험 종료 후 토양 화학성은 처리구별 차이를 나타내지 않아 MFcL의 처리가 토양이화학성에 미치는 영향은 미미하였다. MFcL 처리 시 잔디의 시각적 품질, 잔디 예지물, 잔디 중 무기 성분 함량 및흡수량은 대조구와 비슷하였다. 잔디 밀도는 MFcL처리구에서 대조구에 비해 약 20% 정도 증가하였다. 이들 결과는 유산균을 함유하는 미생물제제의 처리는 크리핑 벤트그래스의 밀도를 향상에 기여하는 것을 확인하였다.

Lactic acid bacteria from healthy breast-fed infants were isolated and screened for β-galactosidase production in MRS broth. Among 49 isolates that exhibited the yellow clear zone on MRS agar supplemented with bromocresol blue, the isolate CM33 was selected as being the highest β-galactosidase producer and was identified as Lactobacillus fermentum based on its morphological characteristics and 16S rDNA nucleotide sequence. L. fermentum CM33 exhibited a good survival rate under the simulated stomach passage model, comparable to known probiotic strains L. gallinarum JCM2011 and L. agilis JCM1187. L. fermentum CM33 was antagonistic to pathogenic bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli 0157:H7, Salmonella typhi, and Salmonella enteriditis, using the well diffusion method. In addition, the selected lactobacilli exhibited a high growth rate when cultivated in modified MRS containing commercial galactooligosaccharide (GOS) as a sole carbon source, as well as in glucose. A preliminary study on the enzymatic synthesis of oligosaccharide using crude β-galactosidase revealed the capability for oligosaccharide synthesis by the transgalactosylation activity.
천일염과 감마선이 막걸리의 미생물 생장 억제에 미치는 효과

This study was carried out to investigate the changes in the storage characteristics of the Korean traditional raw rice wine (RRW) treated with Korean sun-dried salts and gamma rays. Nowadays, RRWs have received attention because they are a nutritious food with health-stimulating properties. But the rapid deterioration of the fermented RRW is one of the serious problems for brewing and marketing in the world. Actually, the expiry date of the RRW is around a week and this has been a biggest disadvantage of the RRW. The goal of this study was to make it of high quality and extend the period of circulation of the RRW. A lactic acid bacterium was isolated from the RRW. The 16S rRNA sequences of isolates showed 98% homology with the Lactobacillus fermentum. These results suggested that could be manageable improve the shelf life with addition of the sun-dried salts and irradiation with gamma rays.
