Due to the recent development of time-based communication media, kinetic typography is becoming a simultaneous communication tool, presenting type over time with new design elements such as rhythm, tempo, sound and motion. Using digital medium to its full potential, kinetic typography can express and enhance emotion. To examine this function of kinetic typography, a standardized category is needed. This study, first, explores the typographic characteristics of two artists/poets who represent the early 20th century expressive typography: G. Apollinaire and F. T. Marinetti. Then, through the categorized characteristics, it identifies the methods for expressing and enhancing emotion in kinetic typography. The category is made up of four parts: 1) expressing sense of movement/ speed/ rhythm 2) visualizing sound 3) expressing free verse 4) implying multiple meanings. Using time and motion as design elements, sense of movement, speed, and rhythm can be expressed in kinetic typography. By visualizing the tone of voice and showing contrasting characters in text, emotion can be enhanced. Adjusting temporal/spatial composition can replace punctuation and be free from traditional syntax, making expressive free verse possible. Since kinetic typography is presented at virtual space over time with motion and sound, there are more possibilities for giving multiple meaning to the word. The early 20th century expressive typography is a great challenge for kinetic typography as it has managed to fully express emotion with limited elements. Using digital medium with more possibilities, kinetic typography should heighten the meaning and enrich emotional qualities in text and be developed into a more effective and functional tool of communication.
User Interface to Express Kinetic Typography with Emotion in Mobile Instant Messengers

To overcome the limitation of emotional transmission with traditional text-based instant messaging systems, this paper designs a messenger user interface for transmitting emotion using kinetic typography. This interface provides two input methods to apply motions to the character. One is 'select emotion after selecting motion' method interface, the other is 'select motion after selecting emotion' method interface. Each method provides a basic motion library, nine parts of emotion coordinates, and a library for adding emotion easily. These provide parameter value control function for modifying more appropriate motion with user’s feelings. In other words, a user can transmit entered text with appropriate emotion by using basic motion library and emotion library together, and control parameter values. Additionally, researchers have confirmed the need of the proposed user interface's two input methods, 'select emotion after selecting motion' and 'select motion after selecting emotion', through evaluation of serviceability. With the proposed mobile instant messenger, kinetic typography that transmits emotion easily and quickly can be produced.

글자는 이제 틀 안에서 벗어나 그 자체로서 조형적이고 심미적인 성격을 충분히 지니게 되었다. 이러한 상황에서 글자가 지니는 정보만을 취득하기 위한 것이 글자의 목적이 아니기 때문에 글자는 공간 안에서 의미가 없는 정보라 할지라도 메시지를 지니고 있고, 글자가 모여 하나의 덩어리를 이루고 점에서 선으로 선에서 면으로 발견된다. 특히 매체가 발전된 디지털 환경에서 글자는 공간으로 이동되었으며 또한 시간의 축에서 메시지를 지니고 있다. Kinetic Typography는 이러한 공간과 시간을 이용한 표현 방법으로 글로서 표현되지 못하는 커뮤니케이션 영역을 가능하게 하였다. 이는 단순히 수신자와 전달자간의 일방적인 메시지 전달만이 아닌 수신자가 선택적인 정보를 받아들일 수도 있고, 전달자가 원하느 방향에서의 커뮤니케이션이 가능해야한다. 즉 Kinetic typography는 인터렉션이 포함된 소통이 가능한 것으로 외부의 자극에 대한 인간의 오감에 의한 반응과정을 통한 감정이입이 가능해야 한다. 웹상에 나타난 키네틱 타이포그래피의 시각적 효과에 관한 연구

Modern web is more important than any other way of communication. The reason is that networks and web users are increasing critically. So typography -the basic letter of web communication- should be made efficiently to meet the role. The basic role and expression of typography demands a new role of typography -multimedia factors unified with image, graphic, sound, and movie. Kinetic typography is more efficient than static typography in the ground that most web users are strongly attracted by the dynamic visual effect. Multimedia provides us with a new communication -digital environment expressed by letters as well as sounds and motions. Typography is also promoted from static one to kinetic typography. However there is a possibility that this variation makes typography just visual letters unable to communicate. So it is critical to understand the value of letters in multimedia and to cultivate the way of transferring the letters. The dynamic expression of time and space plays a key role in communication through kinetic typography. This dynamic expression theory should be used variously to show effectively. Kinetic typography should be studied to develop the new inspiration and spirit with theory and experience.
Development of Primitive Motion Library for Kinetic Typography Rendering Engine

Kinetic Typography Rendering Engine contains Primitive Motion Library to convey the emotions. It wraps essential elements such as time, space and speed to express movement. Scrutinized primary movement is constituted as Primitive Motion Library and it is a way to kinetic typography properly. The main purpose of Primitive Motion Library substitutes the existing method to manufacture kinetic typography; such as using software and doing expert coding. To achieve this purpose, the thesis is separating the movement, classifying it systematically and developing Primitive Motion API which renders Kinetic typography.

The application extent of kinetic typography has been extended by development of audiovisual medium and the Internet. Now typography is in evolution becoming dynamic, complex kinetic typography put together image and sound. The most notable characteristic of kinetic typography in multimedia environment is to get people obtain information through the sense of sight and hearing in particluar time grafting together time, space and sound inside still pictures. This study was begun with the meaning of kinetic typography and following facts;firstly, visual information is effectively transmitted when it is using aural elements, because it is more appealing by provoking person`s motive or interest. Secondly, it is possible that people can enjoy music by their sense of hearing when music carries visual images. In this respect, this study investigates theological background of kinetic typography. And it analyzes cases which are expressed based on existent music. Secondly, to create work based on above theological analysis, it takes two songs: message central music and rhythm central music. To apply these chosen songs to music video, firstly it analyzes the songs. And it creates two music videos per a song. One is focused on the meaning of lyrics, the other one is focused on sound(rhythm) to compare the differences the way of applying kinetic typograph
국내 영화사이트에 표현되는 커뮤니케이션 요소로서의 키네틱 타이포그래피의 관한 연구

Recent growth of communication media has rapidly been so changing as to alter the existing communication paradigm itself. Internet which was supplied rapidly beginning in 1990`s has been bringing about huge changes in every area including politics, economy, society, and culture. A sudden change of communication media left room to reconsider the most substantial and direct problem `selection of how and channel` among communication factors in view of informatics. It is the web site that appeared as a channel to convey, and in particular kinetic typography in movie site takes its place as a form of communication. It is kinetic typography, as an engrafted form of mass communication and video media that have developed day by day, that typography area has been expanded to a broader concept, i.e., kinetic typography by compounding space, time, speed, sound, and technology, etc. to typography. It is expected that kinetic typography in movie site, as a communication method to convey effectively a message, will develop as a way of proposing a possibility of interesting and various expressions. With this, the kinetic typography will place itself on the web as an important part of visual communication from now on, and it will be a means that comes closer to the general public in multimedia age.

At present, the human beings fall into the flood of information, not only necessary but also unnecessary, without one`s will. All of the information is mostly transferred through the typography. For centuries, the typography has been discharged the duty as a mass medium of information, but shown some differences with the former practical use resulting from the development of the medium named internet. The typography is being located a new independent media by the addition of motion owing to the development of multi-media, which was not possible faculty in a paper. However, giving undue value to the visual function in disregard of the basic purpose of the information media, the real substance has been being distorted. This thesis put forward a proposition about the function as the information media which is the basic purpose of the typography, by adding the elements of motion, space, and time on the theoretical background of the typography developed for long period of time. And it aims at how to present the meaning of the typography as an element of the advertisement in the media named the Internet banner advertisement, and what the typography derive from the moving format. In addition, this thesis analyze from all viewpoints the real case of the kinetic typography in the Internet banner advertisement, and intend to propose the upgraded target of the kinetic typography.
音楽とキネティック・タイポグラフィの感性比較 - 音楽用感性評定尺度によるキネティク・タイポグラフィ測定を中心に-

This study is to review kinetic typography, which can be utilized on behalf of music. In order to understand the emotion of kinetic typography in preliminary study, AVSM (affective value scale of music) was used to on behalf of the measure ‘Emotional disparity of kinetic typography’. As a result of preliminary study, it was revealed that music and kinetic typography can be utilized as an identical "emotional measure for evaluation". On this study based on the result of preliminary study, statistical difference between emotional values of Music as the focus on emotional communication and kinetic typography produced by musical rhythm without music was compared. As a result, music can be replaced by kinetic typography. この研究はキネティック・タイポグラフィに音楽の代わりとして活用可能性があるかを探索するものである。先行研究では、キネティック・タイポグラフィの感性を理解する一つの方法としてその感性値を統制する尺度が必要であると考え、音楽用感性評定尺度(AVSM)によるキネティク・タイポグラフィ測定を試み、キネティック・タイポグラフィ用感性評定尺度としての使用可能性を検討した。その結果を基に本研究では音楽の諸要素の内、感情の伝達機能に着目し、「音楽」と「その音楽のリズムに基づいて制作するが、音楽を添えずに提示するキネティック・タイポグラフィ」の感情値を測定し、統計的な有意差を調べた。ことでキネティック・タイポグラフィの伝達可能性を考察した。

Head of a family frequency for efficient communication found that module is formed design enemy who use high in fundamental analysis of Kinetic Typography in this research. Wished to offer new issue of new media age through research atomized hereafter. And Kinetic Typography`s communication expects to be magnified by design area and is studied.
