A torque converter in automatic transmission transfer the engine power to automatic transmission fluid(ATF). A torque converter consists of the hydrodynamic clutch device and the lock-up clutch device. Especially lock-up clutch device connects directly an engine and an automatic transmission for high efficiency and the low fuel consumption. The inner torque converter are impeller blade and turbine blade and stator blade. At stall, impeller blade rotates high, the inner torque converter occurs a cavitation. A torque converter’s torque ratio and input torque capacity factor is lowed by a cavitaion. And hydrodynamic performance of torque converter is unstable. In this study of the cavitation of torque converter is investigated by the change of oil pressure and input revolution.

The torque converter in automatic transmission transfer the engine power to automatic transmission. The power transmission of torque converter can be classified into the fluid region and the region of the lock-up clutch. The hydrodynamic performance of torque converter could be improved by modifying shape of impeller, turbine, reactor. The hydrodynamic performance could be improved more easily through the reactor changes. Because, the reactor is usually made of aluminum die-casting. This paper is researched for improvement technique of hydrodynamic performance about reactor shape.

Friction plate, one of key elements for torque transfer in lock-up clutch system, is made of wet friction material by synthetic fiber. Drag torque by these friction plates affects hydraulic performance of torque converter. This study showed the relationship between drag torque and hydrodynamic performance of torque converter with different number of friction plates at various ATF(Automatic Transmission Fluid) temperatures and rotation speeds.

A torque converter in automatic transmission transfer the engine power to transmission by ATF. The mechanical device which is called lock-up clutch connects directly between a engine and a automatic transmission for the high efficiency and the low fuel consumption. Also many studies of NVH and drivability have been in order to increase lock-up area. In a lockup clutch system a friction plate is one among key elements of torque transfer and is made of wet friction material by synthetic fiber. The surface roughness of the steel plate, the friction material, the cooling condition and the damper characteristics in a torque converter are important design parameters for the improvement of NVH and drivability. Factors decide characteristics of friction material and material composition, apply pressure, rotation speed, ATF temperature. This test evaluates drag torque and hydrodynamic performance of friction plate shape and ATF temperature, rotation speed.

Torque converter located in automatic transmission is important role that absorb the vibration of the engine and torque conversion. To improve vehicle performance, development of the torque converter matching to advanced engine performance is essential. The torque converter consist of impeller, turbine ,reactor and complex three dimensional shape. In order to implement a fluid performance according to the characteristics of the vehicle. Final shape is determined through repeated analysis. Flow analysis of the torque converter is essential. Time required for the analysis and accuracy of the analysis is most important. The paper proves that how to minimize the space and analysis method for determining the size of the grid to maintain the accuracy of the interpretation.
